Those old games had heavy heavy auto aim. That's been for the most part, removed by the wave of third person shooter and first person shooter titles over the years. With the basica game itself there's no way to enable the kill radius of a weapon, but to compensate for this, Raven made a lot of the fired projectiles really slow. Laser fire is nowhere near as fast as it was in the movies (the polar opposite of this would be the Republic Commando game).
Third person shooters and first person shooters have become a staple, and with a little practice it's easy to get used to. It does take some getting used to though. Given the cheats available for the PC version, I recommend 2 things to aid in practice (using this game alone).
Use the cheats to turn god mode on, and then use the npc spawn cheat to spawn hordes of storm troopers. They won't kill you, but will move around from time to time, giving you a good chance to practice hitting moving, and stationary targets. You can use the giveall cheat to add more weapons/ammo to your arsenal, and get a feel for how they work.
As far as coding the radius of a weapon blasts detection range, that can only be done with modding of the game files to change the data coded for the specific weapon, changing its 'hitbox' to a much larger size. As for aiming with a lightsaber, it's best to start off with attacks using the strafe left and strafe right buttons. This will cause you to attack horizontally, in a wide sweeping arc (yellow stance is the best for this - best combination of power, speed, and attack rate)

This may sound like sacrilege to some of you hard core gamers but thought I would ask anyway. The question is there a way to increase the kill spread of the weapons in JOC?
The original Dark Forces did not require you aim the weapon exactly at the bad guy to kill them. If you were off a little it would correct so you hit them anyway. JOC requires you be right on and to be honest the game is so hard it just isn’t any fun.
Is there any way to make the weapons act more like the original Dark Forces to make the game a little easier to play? Many of the newer games are just too hard to play for a lot of us older gamers who remember Duke Nukem 3D and many of the other older games.
I am talking about the PC version.
