Kojima technology was going to change everything, they'd said. An eternity of corporate grandstanding and mercenary profiteering would come to an end as this new form of energy made everything that came before it obsolete. The old fuels and the fires of war they ignited would become a footnote in our common history. The solution to had been found: the Green Movement had an answer. Kojima - the particles were everywhere, and always had been. And now that they could be harnessed, humanities long-suffering would finally be relieved.

That was some three hundred years ago. Very little information from that era remains today, lost amidst a sea of toxic aether that cloaks the ground. The air bleeds a sickening green… and the few who dare to brave it are never heard from again. No one knows exactly what happened or who is to blame; what does it matter now? The mistakes and shortsightedness of the past continue to scar the earth. Still, they were right about two things: Kojima particles are everywhere… and they changed everything.

The NEXT's were the harbingers. These prototype weapons were responsible for the pushes into Kojima research. Their unique powerplants ushered in a new era of military technological superiority... an era that was shortlived. The transfer of atomic particles into the Kojima to produce energy caused a problem. A secondary compound, known as KB (or Kojima Blood) escaped into the air and spread rapidly. The effects were both numerous and devastating: loss of consciousness, loss of rational thought, hallucinations, seizures, major organ failure... mutation.

Only the Harbingers would survive, sheppards to a token few. Gliding across the mists of the upper troposphere is Empyreus. Originally constructed as an orbital weapons research platform, the colony is now home to several thousand survivors. All are descended from the original team of researchers who were fortunate enough to escape the catastrophe on the surface. Although they possess radical technology and the expertise to employ it, the denizens of this orbital safehouse have never set foot on their own soil. But with the deployment of Hisakata, Empyreus' elite team of deep-space NEXT's, that's about to change.

The Empyrean's are not alone in their efforts. Off the coast of what was once New England lies Sanctuary, nestled safely beneath trillions of tons of sea-water and three miles of ocean bedrock. What was once a series of deep core mining facilities has now become the last bastion of survival on Earth. A total of six sites connect through massive subterranean service tunnels, with a single exit point to the shore. Officially it has been sealed for three hundred years. But there are those amongst the thirty thousand in Sanctuary who would say otherwise... some who go so far as to claim that they’ve been all the way to the surface. That list is about to grow.

Kojima degrades. It has taken three hundred years... three centuries of waiting, survival and prayer. And now it’s time to go back. The vile mist is clearing. And beyond it…?

This thread will serve as the discussion for the RP, which will itself be launched in the coming weeks in a separate thread. Unlike the Sagas RP, this thread will not receive anecdotal updates or stat-keeping. I am assuming that all participants have familiarity with how one of these RPs should work. That said, there are a few rules and points of note that are specific to this RP:

• Any and all questions or discussion must occur in this thread. The RP thread (not yet created) can contain storyline posting ONLY.
  
  
• Officially the RP uses the Armored Core: For Answer garage, although custom parts are permitted. You ARE NOT required to post the specific part schematics for any ACs or NEXTs - a general description will suffice.
  
  
• This RP takes place in an "alternate reality" if you will; there are to be no connections to any of the previous AC RPs.
  
  
• You must affiliate yourself with either Empyreus or Sanctuary at the beginning of the RP. Your affiliation can change at relevant points in the story, or if new factions become available.
  
  
• You are not required to begin the RP with an AC or NEXT, nor are you ever required to obtain one if you so choose.
  
  
• Your character is free to build and/or obtain new ACs or NEXTs at any time.
  
  
• You should have a main or primary character; however, you can also create plot-crucial non player characters as part of your storyline. You are free to write posts from these characters points of view. You are also free to transfer these characters to other players.
  
  
• If your character is killed you are free to create another character, or assume control of one of your plot-crucial non player characters.
  
  
• You may post character sheets for your non player characters, if applicable.
  
  
• With a binary opposition RP like this, player versus player conflict is bound to emerge. You may engage other player characters in unprovoked attacks, unexpected ambushes etc. without their prior consent, forcing them to react. However you MAY NOT:
  
  = kill another player character
  
  = severely injure another player character
  
  = kill a plot-crucial non player character
  
  = severely injure a plot-crucial non player character
  
  = destroy or cause irreparable damage to a player characters AC/NEXT (if applicable)
  
  = destroy or cause irreparable damage to a plot-crucial non player characters AC/NEXT (if applicable)
  
  EXCEPTION :: any of the aforementioned points can be ignored if you discuss your intentions with the relevant parties beforehand and both agree on a course of action. In other words, you need permission.
  
  EXCEPTION :: you are free to kill your own character or any plot crucial non player characters that you have created (and are under your direct control).
  
  
• Post length is at the discretion of the author, but the recommended length is 20-30 lines. I would prefer to keep posts brief and easy, rather than long and effortful.
  
  
• Double posting is PERMITTED after a 24 hour lapse.
  
  
• There will be an expected quality and tone for the posting, in keeping with the canon of the story.
  
  
• According to Neoseeker ERA and site guidelines any RP being posted on the forums requires a rating. This RP is UNRATED, meaning any and all content is permissable.
