Jak 1 was made at a time when mute characters were cool, but I'd say fans asked that Jak be able to speak for the sequel.

Yep, he/she is right because Daxter says "This guy [Torn] might be a mute like you".

It is weird because Jak starts talking in Jak II.

well, actually, Daxter says that Jak's a mute cuz when they first met for the two years they were apart, Jak doesn't talk for the first part of the cutscene.

Play the second Jak game, Jak talks all the time. It's also more fun than the firsat =D (that's an opinion, so don't get all angry about it, don't hurt youself).

well actually he calmed down in 3 because he was given the light eco which balanced him and to those of you who tried to quote jak 2 its "maybe this guys a mute, like you used to be"

Ugh, all of you stop it. It is very simple. In Jak 2: Renegade, Daxter refers to the fact he used to be mute, but due to the Dark Eco injected into him, it gave him the ability to talk. The reason his dialogue was a agressive was because of the Dark Eco as well. He calmed down in Jak 3, because he was used to the Dark Eco. There. That's your explanation.

I also agree with this. Besides, there is a possibility that Jak was also able to talk in the first game, but he is just constantly getting interrupted so doesn't say anything.

Because Jak has no voice or opinion, gamers are immersed further into the game because they are able to create their own perception of his personality and how he would respond to certain situations - so in a sense, you are Jak.

I totally agree. The fact that he doesn't talk builds his character. Rather than knowing all about his personality, we get to paint our own image of it. Also, we get to think about what he might say and build a bond with him that you couldn't if he talked.

I first played this game when i was about 5 or 6, and my friend thought Jak couldn't speak because he was Polish!!
