And - if you mean defeating the guy in the middle; oh yes, very hard. In fact I'll probably be trading this game in before I ever manage to beat him. Doesn't matter to me much, I just wanted to see if I could get all the hearts.
For the best tips about beating him, look for my link to the Vexx FAQ, it has great advice about what to do. I could probably do it eventually, it's just too much work and too little fun.

If you mean 'Citadel of Shadows', I found it wasn't as difficult as 'Frostblight Mill' which is probably the hardest world in the game. 'Citadel' is the hardest one to get the 100 shards for, though.

Apparently the rumours about this started because of the four hangings in the initial room, where you acquire the rock suit emblem. Unfortunately there's just the rock suit and the flying suit. No others are necessary to get all 81 hearts.

I find 'The Below' is sort of the make-or-break point in the game; it seems like there's a lot of people that quit when they get that far because it starts getting harder. Even for me, there's a couple of hearts I picked up there that I'm still not certain I did the 'right' way; especially the one about the statuary, I'm not exactly sure how they work. I kept getting zapped and healing myself, trial and error.
