The reason i disliked ff7 was because i thought the characters themselves had lacked connection and there is too much story linked to the plot and past and not enough connection between characters and there is a huge lack in character developement.I also found at times the game boring and making me often yawn. The stupid materia sistem was downright annoying as was the chocobo breeding and the stupid annoying cave music. Also i think it did lack some more faster movement. Its a slow game with alot less action.
FF6 has story but in truth its alot faster paced.I didn't like cloud or sephiroth at all.I thought sephiroth as a villain didn't seem like a villain at all and cloud seemed too cold towards tifa and others. The whole game was about cloud and sephiroth. The others were almost overshadowed.
You know everything about cloud and sephiroth but even then,
after knowing the story he is still as cold and emotionless as a piece of cardboard box. Also very stereotypical in the way that he is a typical machista. There was not enough center on the characters themselves and too much on the story i think. Also ff6 had clever dialogue wich ff7 could never compete with.

This is one of the best but for the life of me I cannot decide!!

I try my hardest not to let nostalgia get in the way so heres what I think...

FFVI has a great story line, THE best battle system (which kicks in later in the game)
FFVII has an immensely thick plot even without the other games and it has memorable characters and GREAT twists (not unlike FFVI or FFVIII) the battle system also rocks.
FFVIII had a good story line which was really emotional but its too easy. I got to level 100 on my main party accidently. And one twist in the plot I was sitting there thinking "seriously...thats a bit of a stretch"

I am not a FFVII fanboy and i HAVE played ALL the main games and at least 90% of the others but for me VII is the best simply because I can keep digging into the plot and find new things. It's just what floats my boat and its the same reason series like Lost and Heroes are so popular because theres so much more plot!

But more seriously it depends what you want in a game none are really better than the other.

Overall yes, it scores high with every aspect. Story, graphics, music, gameplay. But ff4 still holds a special place in my heart as well

I don't fit in that 75%, I have an Intellivision as well. I grew up playing every FF game since they came out so I consider myself an old school gamer. I have played about 300 or so RPGs so I like to think I know a thing or two. FF7 just got to me, it's different for everyone but I was hooked when I got it. It was head and shoulders above everything else I played. I still love the old FF games, I in no way put them down, just I prefer FF7.

Oh really?
Check, Page 2 of this thread, around five posts down. It's the long one. I rank all the FF games I've played and I put FF7 in dead last. It's really the only FF game that actually pissed me off as I played it.

I'll admit though...I'm in the minority when I say this, though I'd say at least 75% of the folks who hail FF7 as the best ever never played any of the older ones and doesn't know where this genre came from. I'm old school (I still have a working Intellivision) so maybe that's why.

It's not that great. Don't believe the hype. I liked Part 8 WAY more. I rank it last out of all the FF games I've played.

I never played it when it came out because I didn't own a Playstation console then... In the 1997/98/99 time period, I was an N64 gamer.

Yes it is, it's depth is great especially in it's story and gameplay. It is very unique, and has a great cast of characters. It sucks you never got to play it when it came out, at the time it was the best RPG I had ever played and still is today.
