I'm also having the same problem although your suggested fix isn't helping? When installing the game the start up is pretty lengthy. When game installed I try to begin and I get the FATAL: string man... error message? I've changed my settings as suggested in the games properties and it dosen't seem to help? I'm running Vista which I think is the problem. Anyway, I've recently purchased C&C3 and can't play it due to this reocurring issue. Plse help someone

Thanks very much Fiyastartah- this cleared up my problem right away.

I right-clicked on the desktop shortcut, went to properties, compatibility, and then checked the boxes for Compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and Privilege level - run this program as an administrator.

quote Fiyastartah
In Windows Vista, simply go to the application in the directory file folder and right click the icon. Then click "Run as administrator" (obviously you need to be logged on as the administrator to have this option available.
After you do this once, the game with start and from then on the game should start without problems.
It works!
