Well, guess we got that whole .hack/April Fools joke out of the way (if you don't know don't worry) and this is the new board we got. Sequel to part 1 I really like the way part 1 looked though I haven't picked it up but hopefully I will and pick this game up as well. Till then I'll be posting info and such. Have fun and welcome all.

Good to see that there's a few people who will be around for a while.

I played DDS1 late last year and went straight onto the second one around about November. Then I got a Wii and played Zelda and several other RPGs. It's nearly 6 months later and I'm back to finish this. It was ammusing; last night I picked it up and completely forgot the battle mechanics and story. I'm back in the swing of things now but there's a few plot points that I've probably forgotten about.

Hello, my name is Quizzy.

I'm a huge fan of the Shin Megami Tensei series and i'm a huge fan of the DDS series.

I just finished DDS1 (which was amazing) and now i'm moving on to this game.

I can definitely see some improvements in this game and i'm really excited to play it.

So I'd just have to put more effort into learning special skills if I only buy DDS2?
You'll have to put effort in learning skills in both DDS, because this isn't a RPG for soft-gamers, while I consider this game to have a medium difficulty setting even in hard mode, this game can be considered really hard for RPG beginners or soft-gamers. What I'm trying to say is that if you find, let's say, Final Fantasy X hard you won't last long in this games, after all Final Fantasy X is one of the easiest RPGs out there. So put effort on leveling characters , customizing them and learning different mantras (skills)
Side-note: The "special" skills I mentioned in my previous post can ONLY be learned if you made the right choices in both DDS1 and DDS2 and you loaded your DDS1 data to DDS2

Are there any sub-quests or anything?
There are side-quest in both DDS1 and DDS2, I strongly recommend you to do the DDS1 ones because it will give you many bonuses in DDS2.

I was hoping for a game that would have a larger total gameplay time.
Actually there are even shorter RPG games, I thought that the gameplay length was medium, but hey if you add up both DDS it's like 80+ hours.

Its also important to note that if you replay the game (either one), your mastered skills will be carried over into the replay.
Yeah you are right, I forgot about that, thanks for posting it

What data carries over? Character level and items?
No, unfortunately your level, items and skills don't carry over from DDS1 to DDS2 because of the story of the game (I consider it a spoiler and that's why I won't tell you why), so what does carry over, you ask? the things that carry over are:
Depending on which optional bosses you defeated in DDS1, you'll get as a reward special and valuable karma rings in DDS2.

If you had more than 1 million macca($) at the end of DDS1, you'll be able to sell your tag ring for more money than usual in DDS2
The most important thing that will carry over are the dialogue choices you made in DDS1, this choices will affect some events in DDS2 like learning special skills in the final dungeon and getting an extra character in the final dungeon.
Depending on your characters stats at the end of DDS1 you'll get stats bonuses in DDS2
By loading your DDS1 data to DDS2 you'll automatically unlock hard mode

If I remember properly that's all

Hey, I'm Concrete, a Pokémon fanatic and RPG gamer.
I'm looking for an estimate on total gameplay time. Also should I buy the first game before this? Does saved data carry over or anything? Is there a part 3 coming out?
I would say like 30-40 hours, it's better for you to have played DDS1 before, so you can appreciate the story more, yet DDS2 works well as a stand-alone. The data carries over from DDS1 to DDS2 and DDS2 is the final part, so there isn't going to be a third part
