I've noticed that Chrono Trigger sells for a lot of money on Ebay and several of the listings claim that the game is very rare. Sometimes up to $40 for the cartridge alone. However, I recently saw a rarity guide on Super Nintendo games that rates Chrono Trigger as a D rating for rarity.
The list was compiled using auction sites to discover how often a game is actually listed. I've talked about this on IGN and some other message boards. Some users actually say it's not rare at all. They actually produced 2 million copies in the US. The amount of people listed on Gamespot that actually own the game is pretty high as well.

I agree about the annoying load times on the PSX version. My brother told me he saw Chrono Trigger SNES selling for 50 bucks on EBAY. I totally have it with the original packing. Flawless condition. But.. no SNES anymore, so I should just sell the thing.
Unrelated, but I'm seeing Final Fantasy 7 going for like 100 bucks now? How can that be, I got mine for 20 bucks. Meh..

i'd say it's rare...and i'd agree that all snes titles are rare to a degree...being that they're out of print. what is really hard to find are instruction manuals, boxes, guides and such. and they sell for quite a bit by themselves. but i think the carts are so abundant because people resell them on ebay to make profit cause its such a hot item... i would say the game is rare simply because it came out near the end of the SNES era and once it was taken off store shelves you couldn't find it except for maybe at a Blockbuster or a flea market type thing...rarely at even a used gamestore. are rarely for anything less than 50$. but that is why it is one of the best games ever...

Chrono Trigger is already out on the DS! Ps the SNES version is NOWHERE NEAR as rare as you would like to believe (especially after buying it for a large sum on ebay). I see more copies of it on ebay popping up than many other SNES titles. The sellers know that some fools will pay just about anything, hence the high prices and description below it claiming its a hard to find item, to try and convince the user, who is usually a retro or gaming nutcase with far too much money. Hardly any games for the SNES can be found on the high street, but that doesnt make them all rare. What would be rare would be NOT finding a copy of Chrono Trigger for sale at all on ebay!

If you admit that you have only seen one or two copies of the cartridge in person.. and then try and say that its not a rare game, then you're not even making sense.
I've seen ONE cartridge in my life, and that's the one my brother bought me online for my birthday when I was like 8..
So yes, it's definitely a rare game.
