Am I the only one feeling a little short-changed on the ending? There was no HUGE surprise, or twist to make it as exciting as Ico's ending. It was a great game with an okay ending. [ Except for the 16th colossus. ]

As good as some "clone sequels" can be (Resident Evil 5, God of War II, etc.), it's very refreshing to have a game that simply stands alone. These games (Ico, SotC) appear to be very artistically influenced. Art isn't just defined by what you see or get, but what you don't see.
My point is that if you have a great game (or score, drawing, whatever you're doing), it needs to flow naturally. Video games tend to lose that natural flow because success tends to drive sequels, as opposed to the passion that drove the original. If you overproduce something and keep throwing money at it, you can never replace the passion that was poured into an authentic artistic experience. I think that's why truly good games are so few and far between these days.

I'm looking forward to whatever Team Ico comes up with next. I wish it didn't take them so long between games though.
That's true. I wish they did what Lorne Lanning did, creator of Abe's Oddysee. Abe's Exoddus was similar to Oddysee, but with improvements and a new story. It enables them to produce a new game in a very short amount of time. A similar but new remake of SotC would please me very much...though I suppose it would still take a while.

I'm just thankful they don't rush and end up screwing us out of content or quality. They make games the way they should always be made.
Not sure I'd 100% agree. Ico was pretty sweet and Shadow of the Colossus was pretty epic. But SotC also had a somewhat suspect camera system. When you were too close to a colossus it was sometimes hard to get your bearings.

There were rumours ages back that Sony had requested a high-definition PS3 remake of SotC but it's never eventuated.

I'm looking forward to whatever Team Ico comes up with next. I wish it didn't take them so long between games though.

I think a sequel would suck. I can't wait for Trico.

and i believe i remember reading somewhere that they will never "confirm" any sort of direct connection between the two games, and simply leave it up to the players own imagination.

I don't believe it's a direct prequel in any way. I believe they're in the same universe, and that Ico is a descendent of Wander, and you're right about Wander starting the race of horned children, BUT there's no direct relation between the games. We don't know anything about time frame or geography, except that one's in a distant empty land and one is in a castle. All we know is that Wander's baby eventually lead to the birth of Ico.

I sure hope that chick has recently had a baby and has some milk in her bosom. Otherwise, the 'end' they didn't show is when the baby dies and she staves to death.

I hope she knows how to butcher a little deer, too...

realistic, not cynical.
From what I understand, the developer has confirmed that Shadow of the Colossus is a direct prequel to Ico. Ico himself is a direct descendant of Wander - he is the first of the horned children. As such, he has to survive somehow and father at least one child.

^ Yamauchi isn't the kind of guy that would do that. What we've seen from Ico and SotC is that he likes to create an idea and explore it immaculately. He isn't the kind of guy to make an Ico 2, Ico 3, Ico 4, to advance an old idea. Which means we may never see another SotC, but maybe we'll see something similar. Apparently the next game is going to be more like Ico =[
