I got 968 with my elf.
Here's a tip:
During the area where you are in the palace during the third sorrow I think (the boss is the magician guy) in the second section (you start out in the room with the generators and the switches so you can open the chests) there is a room where a bunch of weird naked guys spawn infinitely. Just let a bunch surround you while blocking, and then have a flippin party.
