The problem is the DC is over heating. To fix the problem take out the modem, remove the top half of the dc case. The board u need to look at is left of the GD-ROM drive. Unplug the little cable to the top left and unscrew the board. Now CAREFULLY unclip the powerboard off. The 6 pins near the bottom left of the DC are the problem. Clean them, with something like WD40, you could also slightly bend them towards the front to ensure better contact, but just cleaning them should solve the problem.

try and see how the laser moves on the disc if that doesn't work. sometimes the grease on the track might be low resulting in resets because it can't move fast enough.

Excess noise can be attributed to dust and bearing wear. I've experienced the worse of the two evils here. Replacing the gd-rom motor itself is fairly simple but a pain to get your hands on lately. I would recommend having at least 1 extra for each dreamcast so that you can ensure longtime gameplay.

although it might also be low on grease and its making a worse sound because its putting more stress on the components.

indeed this is a problem, it seems people play on their dreamcasts so much that it literally overheats!

there are many help sites out there, and parts available to fix the problem. sega shouldn't have made the dreamcast so addictive!

My DC was reset when i just turned it and what from well it wasn't the GD-rom Lazer. Damn the thing was over heating as soon as I turned it on!!! Oh well at least I know how to fix it. The reason is, is that they put the god damn Transformer so *bleep*ing close to the senseitive parts of the *bleep*ing Dreamcast.
