Subject: Stuck after Altar. Help!

I have retrieved the life upgrade in the secret door at the back of the sacrifical altar. Now I can't figure out how to get out of there. If I follow to what I think is the logical end, I end up going to the other time period and hitting a dead end (and somewhere I've already been). Any suggestions? I'm really stuck.

i think you have to keep mgoing back and forth
