Try clearing the next level and then buy a rifle at the next lodge. If you can't then it is probably just a defect in the programming or a scratch. just take the game and receipt and get a new copy if that don't work.

just wait till you get to the next lodge and sometimes you can even custom build your own guns

Im at the lodge where to have to win the trap shooting tournament and it wont let me do it. i go to the target range and it wont let me,(the lodge where you have to advance to the desert)
