When you become Don of NY you get a cut scene with you and the other Dons around a table and that is it, except that you now have infinite ammo that is.
There is nothing else extraordinary, sorry.

I have read that you are granted with xtra missions...if not, the there is no great Finale to the game?

There are no extra missions.
The Cut Scene that you get when you become Don of NY is the Finale to the game, whether it is Great or not is a matter of opinion.
