Oops, sorry, hadn't updated the first post after we'd talked it through in the thread. We're doing it as Cdemon said, 4 matches, 2 on each host. Winner is decided by who wins the most rounds.

I'll soon start up a seperate thread for map nominations, but bear in mind, we wont be able to use any of the new maps, as sadly not everyone has them. That rule will be revoked if it turns out all entrants do have the download though.

If you're deciding it like that, then the maps will have to be nominated after all the entrants are decided.

lol this "most rounds won" thing is so ridiculous. I could be wrong, but I thought the point of the game was to win matches, not have the greatest margin of victory.

I'll go along with it, only because you guys seem to have a hard on for this method, but I dont think it is the best way in determining which team is truly best.

You do realize that even if we went with matches won, a winner would be decided by having the greatest margin of victory (matches)? It's just more competitive with rounds won.

Yeah, this is purely to increase the competetive aspect of the tournament. No slacking off just because you've won two matches, it doesn't mean you'll win overall.

i know. honestly the rounds thing is horrible. should they ditermine the winner of a baseball game by seeing who gets the most runs in an inning, then adding them up to see which teams had the most runs the most.

More detail:

take a football (american version) game.

Team A scores 10 points in the 1st qtr, 7 in the 2nd, 14 in the 3rd, and 3 in the 4th. a total of 34 points.

Team B scores 12 in the 1st, 10 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, and 7 in the 4th. a total of 32 points.

According to your logic, Team B would win the game because they outscored Team A in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th quarters; even though they had less overall points. Honestly your logic sucks dick...

No, yours does.

You're comparing the quarters of a football game to the four matches we're doing; that's not a legitimate comparison. The correct comparison would be the football (Gears) team that wins the most games (aka rounds in this tournament format) make it to the top of their division (ladder).

Nice try, though.

I mean, is it really hard to look at the matchups as 28 rounds instead of four matches? The team who wins 15 rounds wins the matchup. Simple.

Well, although this "most rounds won" thing is pretty bullshit, it is probably the best way to do things.

I mean, thinking about it, because of the f'n lag between US and Euro players, its the most simple solution, even if just doing it by matches won is the most efficient method.

Guess it just doesn't work because of the host factor.

Honestly I don't know what Matt was trying to say.

By reading it over a few times, I can only conclude that you don't have a clue what Curtis and I are on about. The winner is the one who wins the most rounds out of the four matches, so as Curtis said, think of it as 28 rounds as opposed to 4 matches. I'm pretty sure it makes perfect sense.

Okay, I have a suggestion.

I think that the winner should be the one that EITHER gets to 3 wins first OR has the most rounds won. Meaning, that if one of the teams takes the first 3 maps, there is no need to even finish the final match.

Because, if a team wins 7-6, 7-6, 7-6, and then loses the final map 7-2, why should they be the loser? Yeah, they were outscored in rounds 25-23, but they won 3 of the 4 maps, which means they were the victors more than not.

I'm pretty sure this hasn't been suggested, as it sounds like you and Curtis have been focusing on the total rounds number(s). But yeah, my suggestion will be put into effect or your entire system becomes bullshit.

You cant make it where the individual map victories dont mean anything. ._.
