fatal frame 3 is the better game, i think! its got ghosts of all the other 2 series put in one big manor! but then again, you cant beat the classics, right?

It's strange, I have memorized every detail of everywhere to go in Crimson Butterfly and Tormented, but in the original, I can only go as far as the end of the first night before I need to breakout a the walkthrough I printed when I was like 11... Since Fatal Frame is so much shorter than Crimson Butterfly and Tormented, you'd think I'd have THAT one memorized and have trouble with the other two...

Honestly, Fatal Frame 1 hardly scared me. It seemed cheesy at times, and the English voice acting didn't do anything for it. The ghosts seemed less scary too, probably because after playing Resident Evil, Forbidden Siren and Silent Hill, I was used to enemies being slightly deformed and ugly.
The glitches were horrible. And they didn't even fix those glitches when they brought it over to Xbox. That's probably what made the game harder.
The other two games scared me more because the ghosts were more human looking. I don't know why this scared me. It could have been the fact that since the ghosts resembled living people so much, it reminded me that they were once alive. I seemed to have forgotten that in Fatal Frame one, because ghosts like
Long Arms and
Well Girl moved in ways real people (even dead ones) wouldn't move, and didn't look anything like they did when they were alive.
In Fatal frame two and three, the Ghosts moved with a sort of creepy stiffness that made it look as though they were in pain. They made sounds, like crying or phrases that were whispered or screamed depending on what happened to them in life. The Fatal Frame 1 ghost sounds annoyed me so much, I actually turned the sound down to keep from hearing their gibberish.
The only thing that scared the shit out of me in Fatal Frame one was an accidental run-in with that friggin' floating head. She flew down a stair case straight at me while I was in camera mode. My filament didn't even glow red until she was so close, I could see what color her eyes were.

Agreed. I especially got tired of hearing "My eyes! My eyes!"

Haha, I definitely agree there. It was especially annoying towards the end of the game, when she managed to pop up in almost every room. It drove me nuts. I think that was the only time I ran out of film, bcause I kept blasting her and hoping that she'd disappear for good.

Yeah, that's something that has been a problem with some of ghosts in the series (though considerably less so in FF2 and FF3).
Some of the ghosts just don't look or move realistically. I'm not sure if that was intentional on Tecmo's part, or if it was caused by the graphical limitations of the PS2. But for whatever reason it is, some ghosts just come off looking silly, rather than scary.
As I mentioned
here, I sure hope that is fixed for FF4. Here's hoping Tecmo don't try to out-do themselves and have a similar thing happen on the Wii.
