-------------------------------------------
OK guys, I have been working on this problem for 2 days now. I was trying to print a long document in Quark Most of it printed, but there are 3 pages which refused to print. I kept getting this error: "pictwpstops - got an error disposing of document."
Well I went online and did some research and found someone who said that this program: Panther Print Aid would solve the problem. So I installed the program. When I did that my printer, which is connected over an Ethernet connection disappeared from my system. So I added it as a printer using it's IP address. But now it will only print garbage.
And now I can't print anything. Originally the printer just "showed up" on the system a little while after we plugged everything up. It used to have the name of the printer as the name of the printer, but now it is named by its IP address.
If anyone could suggest a solution or something I could try I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

OK, so now I've got the Printer up and running again. But of course I am still having problems printing 3 specific spreads. The rest of the file printed fine. I only get the error message "pictwpstops" sometimes. The other times, the print job shows up in the printer window...it says it is starting job, and then the job just disappears. And the printer acts like it just received absolutely no data. Anyone have a suggestion?

The only way I have found to get around it was to postscript then pdf the pages with the problem. Since our printer works from our pdf's this was great, and then I just printed the pdf's for proofs. However, I have found some people who seem to have problems postscripting and pdf'ing with this problem.

Another guy said that he deleted the fonts out of his management that were giving him errors in Quark and then reinstalled them and they were fine.
Good luck!

The same thing is happening to me, this is nuts

I was able to print one document by checking "Printer" instead of "Conventioanal" in the print window under the "Output" tab in the Halftoning pop-up menu.

I still have two files that I CAN NOT PRINT HELP!

me too!

Printed a very simple job out of Quark 6 to a Canon iR2800 (black and white). worked fine the first time but after a small correction it won't print at all, not even if I delete the corrected parts off the page!

I had the same error message. It turned out to be a font problem. To test this you need to turn off all the fonts used in that particular document and then try printing. If it prints then you have a font conflict. The font I had problem with was Rotis. It would be interesting to know if others are using that font. However I have heard of people using other fonts with the same results. Flipping Extensis! Why can't they iron out the bugs in their software? There are so many with suitcase and they seem to bring out the worst in Quark.
Let us know if this works for you!

It's not just Extensis. We use Font Agent Pro. I think that the main problem I keep having with Quark is due to the different TYPES of fonts. I pretty much can't print anything anymore without first postscripting it and then PDF'ing and then printing. It sucks. For instance, there will be a true type Helvetica and a postscript helvetica. Even though one will be turned off and one turned on Quark still has issues. I really believe that it is a Quark problem. There have been times when Quark had said that a specific font is corrupt in the file, but if you go into the usage the font is not even listed. I can usually print small documents that don't have a lot of fonts in them, but the larger my document the more issues I have. It is definitly a font problem I agree.

I just found this discussion - I have had the same problems for years and "solved" it the same way (substituting fonts, pdfs, etc.) - however, that is only a patch...yes, it is a font problem - but what is the solution (without using a font that doesn't cause the problem)? I also find that it happens in Quark when printing. I use Quark 6.5 on a Mac with Tiger (10.4.4) I tried deleting the font and then re-install it - didn't work, making sure I didn't have any duplicates. Also, on Postscript fonts, I can't see both parts (Printer & Screen) - what's up with this?

It happens to me when sending just a box filled with black. No Fonts.

If you log in as a different user, can you print the same document from quark?

We can, indicating that it is a user level problem.

Apple doesn't know what to do other than throw away stuff from the caches folder.

We began getting this pictwpstops error when we switched to Tiger. Lots of machines, Vectorworks, Acrobat and Quark all have this problem. We have carefully checked the health of our fonts with the Tiger Fontbook system as well as FontDoctor. In one Vectorworks instance, we were able to print an older version of a document that was made befor our switch to Tiger. In come cases a document will print on one machine but not another. In some cases a document will fail to print and we will get the pictwpstops error when we try to make a PDF of that same document. It would be great if we at least knew what pictwpstops means...

Simple fix, open Font Book, select all fonts and click resolve duplicates

I finally got my document to print by turning off ALL fonts in Extensis Suitcase X, turning off ALL fonts in FontBook then reloading only the fonts I needed for my document into FontBook. Then the file went right through.

Good Luck!
