Tenchu: wrath of Heaven. Yeah its a sequel. But the events of Tenchu: Fatal shadows are directly after Rikimaru is trapped in the Mei-oh's Cavern. And Ayame has her own adventures, and at the end of that game, the story develops, in order to follow into Wrath of Heaven.

Nope, as Armourise said, Wrath of Heaven and Fatal Shadows are both for playstation2. Stealth assassins and Birth of the Stealth assassins are for the PSX.
Willstab, i see you are a true fan of the series. You planning on buying the PS2 Tenchu's?

Yeah you might also wanna get a Wii for Tenchu 4 coming out next year.

Don't forget about Shinobi Taizin and Z.

Actually forget about Tenchu Z. I heard it pretty much sucks.

I am NOT getting an XBOX 360 (nor a Wii), i'll get a PS3 with the hope that another Tenchu should be made for it- 'The Grand Return' as i call it from hereforth!

Well in that case forget about Fatal Shadows.

and unless you're a huge Tenchu fan forget about Wrath of Hevean. It's definitly not worth buying a system for.

Fatal shadows doesn't suck. It's a fact.

Oh, no, i wouldn't buy a system for a single game alone (although WoH is pretty damn awesome), but base it on how many games there is that i would get for it. In my case Tenchu would be the only game i would get for Wii, whereas PS3= GTA4, Devil may cry4, MGS4, Dynasty warriors6 ETC.
It's a clear cut decision really.

... i just have a little hope that Tenchu will one day return to Playstation.

Fatal shadows doesn't suck. It's a fact.
First of all, even WoH wasn't that great of game(not saying you can't like it. Its kinda generic and not much better than Birth for being on a new system, which is all fact).
And its also a fact, even if you are a fan, that Fatal Shadows was a little too similiar to WoH.(I mean look at the difference MGS2 and 3 and those were on the same system)
And by most reviewers even Tenchu 2 is considered crap because it is too similiar to the first game. It is an accepted fact by the gaming world that the Tenchu series is not that good other than the first game(Which is the only game considered classic or even good). Although I strongly disagree because Tenchu 2 was good.

There's nothing wrong with liking generic games, but you must recognize their faults too. I mean I have fun playing Predator Concrete Jungle despite it being a very generic game.
And you're talking to a person who sorta likes WoH and is lenient with this series. You should hear some other people.

And even I admit thst WoH and on was sorta.. uh ..less quality. Fatal Shadows is about as far from classic as this series gets.

Again you are 'giving' an opinion. I don't care about those critics- they can suck balls for all i care.
But basing games on what they are (not the series they come from), their gameplay, longevity,
STORY, music and graphics, i place the whole series highly on my list of best games.
Jumping from game to game, all Tenchu's are similar indeed, they are Ninja stealth-action-hack 'em up games, but seperately they are just great, and there
ARE improvements that make each game special. Just like MGS, where all the games were (are) similar, even MGS3 which used the same engine anyway (wow, it's in the jungle, so many differences!) But still i don't go and hack off MGS. It's a brilliant series.

When it comes down to it, it is our individual opinions that count, and although you think WoH and FS are low quality in actuality, you can pit them against most games of their times.

I was referring to every Tenchu fan I ever met besides you and Subaru.

Good critics never give inaccurate facts about the games you may potentially buy, they are trying to inform (warn?) you about inadequacies in the game that may disappoint you. They never say you absolutely
can't have fun with the game, because as you know, this varies from person to person.
quote Dantess26
Again you are 'giving' an opinion.
Ok, I'm throwing my opinion out the window because you've heard it before. I will do my best best to 'give'
FACT.

Well if you're going by story Tenchu doesn't have much to offer other than Birth. Also a total 10 levels doesn't scream longevity by any stretch of the imagination. If you're going by graphics FS has the same graphics as a game from 2003. And If you're going by gameplay the series hasn't seriously stepped up it's game since 1998. The AI of enemies and the way the game works has never been dramatically changed.
quote Dantess26
Just like MGS, where all the games were (are) similar, even MGS3 which used the same engine anyway (wow, it's in the jungle, so many differences!)
Ok I have to draw the line here, to say that MGS has remained unchanged as much as Tenchu is quite simply madness.

You failed to mention that MGS 3 added the whole
CQCfighting syle, a complex camouflage system(Which acquire has obviously been inspired by with the watered-down camo in Tenchu 4), Tons of alternate costumes and facepaints, and at least a dozen new weapons and gadgets. The biggest addition to the gameplay was the survival elements. Oh and did I mention
new character models? Along with
much better graphics. The list goes on and on.
Basically look at it this way:
Tenchu to Tenchu WoH: Enemies still act exactly as stupid, grappling hook and fighting is about the same other than a few new moves, most importantly the stealth engine has had no major changes. A decent amount of new items, most of them recycled from past games.
MGS to MGS3: The entire gameplay has been completely revised and improved with 1st person aiming, advanced CQC stealth, new detection engines and evasion with far superior AI, the entire stamina and survival engine with all the food, all the new costumes, the ability to shake down enemies for items while holding them up. The graphical update is vastly superior to any previous game, whereas Fatal Shadows (which was released on the same console as WoH, just like MGS2&3) did not receive any kind of graphical revision. The only gameplay "updates" in that Tenchu games usually receive are nothing more than little added nuances like dashing or the way you draw your sword. Love it or hate it, Birth did nothing for series in terms of gameplay. WoH is the only game in the series that added a few genuinely new concepts like magic-nija abilities as a result of performing enough stealth kills. The extras like co-op and vs can't hide the the very stale gameplay in that it has, which compared to other PS2 games released much earlier, with much higher production values and 'fresh' gameplay, is what makes it seem like an utter
failure. I just wish the developers would add some
decent AI, but they still refuse to include it. Despite those
painful facts, I managed to have some fun with these games.
Do I even have to mention
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots? You can't compare it Tenchu Z or even Tenchu 4 because its on the Nintendo Wii(which is not even next-gen and its vastly superior to
Z, which is just pathetic.
quote Dantess26
you can pit them against most games of their times.

Well no not really. Yes these games are entertaining, fun and pretty cool but it's when you start comparing them with other games of the time or before it(MGS2) Thats not to say that good times can't be had with crappy games.

I'd say MGS has stepped up it's game a little more than Tenchu.

And although it is my
opinion that MGS is better Splinter Cell, it is a commonly accepted fact that Splinter Cell is even better than MGS in many ways.
When it comes down to it we can't let our
opinions on something cloud our view of the
truth. The Tenchu series just doesn't measure up to the standard of current stealth games. In fact its never been a contender with exception of the original game.

It sounds to me like you just conformed to the rest of the critics and game fans opinions. Could it be that both me and Subaru have a unique taste in games... no, that's not the case. I've been playing computer games since i can remember, and Tenchu stood out for many reasons- and to this day remains
ONE of my favourite games, and there is reason for this.
quote Order66
I'd say MGS has stepped up it's game a little more than Tenchu.
Exactly my point. Only a little. Yeah, MGS is great and all, i do love the game, but catagorically it hasn't made leaps and bounds. WOW- new character models. Series' don't just change into other genres, so don't complain that Tenchu has hardly changed, appreciate the fact that it has been honed and improved to one of the best stealth games out there. (obviously if you can't see that FS improved in
ALL aspects to WoH it seems like you haven't played it, or you seriously love new character models?).
And as for WoH, it was a step up from both first games in most aspects (maybe not if you liked the realistic aspects of Tenchu2, fair enough on that point) and defined the series to be honest. The graphics weren't/aren't realistic like MGS' because it was created to be more like an Anime. I thought too that WoH graphics weren't that good at the time, but still, look past that and you get a great game (similar case with Time of the assassins for PSP).

You twist my words- i said: "Jumping from game to game, all Tenchu's are similar indeed, they are Ninja stealth-action-hack 'em up games, but seperately they are just great." Before that quote...
So judge each game for itself (not as a series) and, for their respective times, they are great games. I would just as soon pick up Tenchu than MGS. Why? Because it has unbeatable atmosphere, epic bosses, great music, swordplay, great stage settings and overall, is a step out of reality.
Facing facts- the opinions of the masses are crap, and i could go on arguing for hours, but it wouldn't get me anywhere now would it? I could be spending this time having 'good times' on a 'crappy game'.

I can see you are a fan-boy of MGS.

What other well known series' do you like then?

Very unique.

It added alot to the stealth element WITHOUT changing it's genre. I never asked Tenchu to change genres, just to actually add some gameplay mechanics to enhance the gameplay experience instead I get a few new items and a couple of moves and abilities after 4 games. They've yet to do anything with the AI(aside from Tenchu 4 and even in that it's not as good as other stealth games).
quote Dantess26
obviously if you can't see that FS improved in ALL aspects to WoH it seems like you haven't played it, or you seriously love new character models?).
To me if you can't see that FS hardly added anything to the game engine(the fact that it runs on the same engine is somewhat disappointing) you must not have played any other series of any decent game.
quote Dantess26
Jumping from game to game, all Tenchu's are similar indeed,
Finally you get it.

I wouldn't exactly call them "hack 'em up"
And you're right, if someone played one of the others by itself they would be tricked into thinking it is a good sequal(Not saying their bad games just bad sequels)
quote Dantess26
the opinions of the masses are crap
I never said they weren't, but some things everyone can agree on again shit smells unpleseant and tenchu sequels don't add much to gameplay. I guess it all depends on where you draw the line on what is right and wrong and what complete denial is.
