Please tell me there is a way to upgrade your wallet or money carrying capabilities to carry more than $500. That seems like a ridiculously low cap.

Nope, there isn't. But on the other hand, the enemies towards the end of the game drop so much money and ammo it more or less ceases to become a consideration.
Plus by that point you'll be making a lot of your own ammo in the inventing machines.

Wow, I wonder why they even put 4 slots in the money visual if you couldn't get more. Yeah - seems like every time I am full up on cash there is a machine nearby for me to dump it into for items and then I go back and take the cash - just seems like a really low cap. Boo.

Why is that often the answer I hear from most people when a slight complaint is raised?
I don't play PC games - I don't have a rig capable enough of running them properly, let alone mods. I play games on consoles. I use computers for surfing.

Because the PC version doesn't have limits like the puny consoles do
Oblivion - User Mods
Fallout 3 - User Mods
Bioshock - Cheats
I mean obviously to bypass certain restrictions like this
