So now that we've had around a week for the Mega Man 9 awesomeness to set in, what do you think needs to get a Mega Man 9-like "return to its roots" sequel?

I wouldn't mind seeing a new 2D, 8-bit Mario game.

Hmmm...Good question, I'd have to go with either a Metroid or a Castlevania.=]

I could see a Mario as well, but it'd probably be very simple.

That Mario would be a huge game, if it was like Super Mario World I would buy three. (For those of you who can't tell I would probably only really buy one.)

Mario, Kirby, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Castlevania. Gosh, pretty much everything besides shooters.

How come nobody's mentioned Sonic yet? Am I really the only one that things they've bastardized the entire series since they went 3D? See, the thing about Megaman is that they still had the X and Zero series keeping things in 2 dimensions so this "retro" style for Megaman 9 isn't going to really feel that old. Sonic, on the other hand, had its best days on the Genesis (and Sega CD, for those who remember). Going back to its roots would probably be the best possible situation for a Sonic game.

I have played most old Sonic games in game collections, I would therefore think myself less biased than most in my belief that Sonic Battle Adventure 2 is better.

Notably I play many games on the Virtual Console that I never had on my SNES and can safely tell you that I often find them as much fun as modern games. Therefore I place a lot of confidence in my belief. That said it is also an opinion and I am more than happy to except that the same is not true for you.

In my opinion, the 3D games are MUUUUUCH better, and besides, there's still the 3 Sonic Advances, and those rock.

Metroid and DK both need a Super Nintendo-esque rebirth. I would also like to see a 2D pokemon game, like the handheld versions, but with the huge amount of extra space of a console to make it a gigantic game, covering all the previous generations and such.

Sonic + Mario

More sonic though. Sega need to do that so they can better undersand what made Sonic great.

I can understand why you think that. However they are constantly borderlining average with Sonic 360 being terrible. 2D Sonic rivalled some of mario's earlier games. Since he went 3D he hasn't even come close.

Mario COULD do it, But a New Mario Bros. 2 would more than suffice.

That is the first game I kept playing seriously after than completing. I mean there are some I replay levels in but I rarely wander over worlds. Even Fable I stopped after the storyline.

PH sucks. End of story.
I'd like to see more of a 16-bit Zelda rather than an 8-bit one. Same with a Metroid.

The 3D Sonic games were a travesty.
