With this thread perking my curiosity, what DO you think the next generation of Nintendo system will be? Do you think they'll keep the motion control formula, try something new, or go back to regular controllers? Do you think there graphics will start to match up with the PS3 and Xbox 360?

And more importantly, how about their games? Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, and all their staples will most likely come back.

IMO, motion control is awesome, but they should keep it to the Wii. Trying to duplicate it may ruin the buzz. Maybe the next gen should go side-by-side with the Wii?

Let you imaginations run and discuss!

I would imagine Nintendo 6 will still have a motion controller in the vain of the Wiimote. Nintendo has always followed the pattern of innovate then improve with their systems, NES to SNES and N64 to GC, and I don't see why Nintendo will treat next generation any differently.

It will certainly be interesting to see how they attempt to bring in new audiences with their next system, as well as upgrade Wii owners that are considered "casual", since these people don't tend to be big upgraders as compared to tech savvy gamers. I do think Nintendo could approach it from a "Three Pillars" point of view, and continue to support the Wii with casual titles like the Wii Fits and Wii Sports, while making a backwards compatible system with higher processing power that can play both kinds of games, as well as a new controller that still operates on the same basic principle as the Wiimote. Meanwhile, use the Wii games created to say "look what you can do with this game on our new system, and check out the new Mario as well, don't you want to give us another $200?"

I think the controller will continue to be a focal point for Nintendo, and will have much in common with the current Wiimote. I imagine the tech. behind Wii Motion Plus will be built in, and I'd like to see at least two more buttons added to the face of the controller, to give it more flexibility. I would think an x and y button, molded around the current a button on the Wiimote akin to the x and y buttons on the GC controller would provide extra functionality within games and make them easier to control, while not compromising the simplicity of the controller.

Finally, I think Nintendo will continue to improve their online infrastructure and functionality in the next generation. A universal friend code system, tied to your system itself, would seem to simplify the current system will still retaining the security Nintendo wants. I also hope the concept of Wii Connect 24 is more versatile, allowing things to go on with your games and such when the system isn't on, etc. I imagine Wii Speak, or something similar, will be integrated into the system as well, perhaps along with a motion camera such as those proposed by Sony and Microsoft.

I think the next Nintendo console will have remote motion controllers again, I mean it's what got them so far ahead in this generation so why wouldn't they keep it? I'm sure they will add an internal HDD to the console seeing how VC games and Wii Ware has taken off. I'm hoping they make the console have graphics that will be current for that time and not outdated as the Wii is. I'm hoping for a much improved online infrastructure as bbb said. I also hope they give it abilities to be a media player like Sony and Microsoft have done. I don't see them doing that but it would be nice. I bet they'll stick with DVDs while Sony goes with Blu-ray and I have no idea what Micro$oft will do because Blu-ray would be easier for games but would also give Sony money so it's a lose-lose situation for them.

Here's what I want:

-graphics and processing power matching that of the xbox and ps3, to allow porting to all 3 consoles again.
-bigger internal memory
-keep the SD card slot
-add usb ports
-built in motion plus
-improve the online
-keep the backwards compatibility
-cater the veterans more

Wii has USB ports, do you mean more?

I would also prefer less multimedia features, personally. They kind of annoy me, and I don't need another DVD player in the house.

I would really love to see downloadable game demos pop up, it is something Wii is lacking.

That would be nice but they would need so many ports on the console that it would be huge, unless the new console is going to be larger anyway then they could just use an entire side for all of them if they want.
They would never do that though because they want the consumer to buy as much as possible, including accessories.

I agree with what most of you guys have said so far. They'll probably stick with a controller very similar to the Wiimote and Nunchuk, but will most likely refine the motion sensing tech in both by including Motion+. Actually, by the time the next system comes out, they'll probably have something even better than Motion+ and will hopefully include that in both the Wiimote and Nunchuk. But knowing Nintendo, they'll probably do something crazy, and you'll control the next system with YOUR MIND.

Of course, the console will have better graphics, probably at least on par with what the 360 and PS3 offer now.

They should also improve their online system by including a universal friend code system and making it so that developers can update their games via patches to get rid of glitches and hackers.

Hopefully, you would be able to transfer over your VC and WiiWare account over to the next system so you could play all those games you purchased on the new system. I will be PISSED if they make you buy them again!

I was thinking Nintendo would mod the old controllers so you can use like the classic controller.

Oh ok. Yeah I thought you meant to have the slots for them so you wouldn't buy new ones. I gotcha now. Yeah that wouldn't be too bad of an idea.

The only getting in the way of my idea is that the modders are just gonna mod their own controllers and tell the internet about it.

It would be cool if they made the Online something like the 360 and PS3 where you can see your friends online and chat with them regularly, without having to call them and say
" YO UP FOR SOME SMASH?" which is what me and my friend do. Its not really a problem but were blocking up the line so if someone tries to call us it wont work.

Wii 2 is actually going to be just a wii, but with a redesigned wii-mote. In the innovative design nintendo is perfecting is said to enable wii players to play there games with out having to move in awkward motions, just sit down in play. There going to do this by taking the wii-mote and adding more buttons to it, and also two "Control Sticks", which is a revolutionary new control method by Nintendo that allows you to have much more precise control over your games than the original wii. The new re-designed controller is said to look like this:

See each button on the revolutionary controller replaces a motion, allowing you to preform an action in game without worrying about your movement not being measured. Nintendo is saying the wii2 will change the way you play wii games forever, now you don't have to do anything. You can just sit and play, the way the games were meant to be. I think its a great idea, nintendo is always on the leading edge of innovation.

No, this thread is asking your opinion in what you want in the SWii.

And they should rename it to WiiWii.
