MGS 1 was a classic, plain and simple.

MGS 2 had an awesome story and a gameplay was a nice.

MGS 3 had that sort of retro feel and the story was very strong and enthralling. The soundtrack (mainly the 1st song) is brilliant. Kind of reminded me of an old bond movie in some ways.

MGS 4 was like a damn interactive movie. Looked amazing, there was a lot put into it.

Love all 4, but I think my fav has to be MGS3: Snake Eater

I did not like MGS3's gameplay all the much, the story is what kept me going through. It just was not very simple to use and it felt awkward even at the ending.

MGS4 had the story, state of the art gameplay, and amazing cutscenes/graphics. I think I just becoming a modern gamer and leaving the old skool games in their glory days, but MGS4 is the best one for me...

I'd go with MGS2.
Must've beaten it a good 20-25 times.

Fighting along Snake at the end with the H.F. Blade is just too fun.

The twists and turns of the story kept me going too.
It was like after watching it maybe the 2rd time you could finally understand everything.

OK. let me be more specific than my previous answer. MGS3 has better game play, graphics, and story than 2. Mgs2 has better graphics and gameplay than 1, but Mgs 1 has a better story than 2, and 1 has a story that rivals 3. so basicly what i am saying is that although I may have said I liked 3 better than 1, I need you to understand that it was a close one.

4 had the best gameplay out of them all.

But I can't really pick a favorite because they're all so important to the whole story.

humm it's tight
but..

1st MGS4 : everything about it is stunning, and to top it all off the online is one of the best online modes I've played.

2nd. This one was close but MGS1 , it's what started it all off and at the time it made the stealth genre of game, and iconic game.

3rd. MGS3, really enjoyed this and the story was very good,

4th MGS2, i didn't like that raiden was the main character in the game, i looked forward to this game for so long at the time after MGS1 and then we don't get Solid snake as a main character we got a girly blond haired fool.

MGS3 was my favourite by far. My favourite movie/tv series/ game story I've seen to date. It had excellent gameplay, a lot of easter eggs. Those dread dogs . It really felt like a survival/stealth game to me. Like. OMG snakes hungry, lets go kill a snake ! Or lets set up a trap to capture a rat ! And I loved how you could grab a guard and hold a knife to him to make him speak

I don't see why everyone says MGS4 has great storyline and the best gameplay. I totally disagree. Sure I think MGS4 is a brilliant game. But to be honest, I hate the new shooting system. I hate the fact that there's hardly any stealth in this one, sure there is stealth but not very good stealth. Just a whole lot of HEY YO CAN'T C ME CUZ IMA OCTAPUZ

And the stress thing really pissed me off too. If your gonna change a game and make it more about shooting then stealth then why the hell would you give us a stress bar. I mean, as soon as snake enters the sun it starts going up. Is that a joke

But yeah don't start flaming, caus I still thing MGS4 is great. Even though 9/10 of the game is custscenes >_>

Gameplay wise, MGS4.

I haven't played MGS3 completely, just a bit, but I've seen all the cutscenes and codecs, so MGS3 story wise. Imo, it has the most epic storyline of the lot.

I hope MGS5 will be a MGS3 remake.
