One thing that almost all final fantasy fans have wanted ever since FFX was released was a more traditional Final Fantasy game. But what do I mean by traditional? Well, I mean a world map through which the character goes through and enters cities on... and it seems that TalkPlaystation.com have gotten word that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be traditional in that sense.

- Tetsuya Nomura - Leading figure on Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts 1 and Kingdom Hearts 2.

When I read "traditional" I thought it meant that versus was going to have a turn based battle system. Dont get me wrong, I love turn based, but I was expecting the game to be an action rpg. Thankfully it doesnt seem to be the case.

As long as whatever gameplay style it has is solid, and the story is good, it can be whatever it wants.

I take it they don't feel Oblivion is better than FF..lol....
I would be happy with a world map, a ship you can fly around it and go to all the cities and sites and traditional names for monsters and major bosses...no excess chest randomization, magic, summons and limit breaks/quickenings, whatever you call it that are meaningful, a compelling story with characters I care about...that's what I would like to see...smiles...

The way I see it is that Nomura feels that Versus will feature more classic Final Fantasy features and locals than XIII.
I'd imagine that this statement doesn't refer to the battle system as well.

Now, when we say traveling on world maps, are we talking brief little areas divided by loading screens? It's be nice if we had a seamless world, even if it's a linear one (as in paths you can't go off).

Well, it's the damn PS3, I can't see why not. But then again, they said it'd be traditional, and traditionally, Final Fantasy games with world maps always have the small areas connected by loading screens.

I liked the way that Dragon Quest VIII did it, the world was nice and big and felt like you were on an epic adventure of sorts. If Versus did it like that it would be really great.

Well, there was world map in a sense, but it wasnt like the FF games where Cloud is towering over a village. You just just walked from one place to another and even though it was at its core linear, it didnt feel linear due to how vast it was. The towns all looked like normal from the outside and when ou enterd it. It wasnt all seemless like Oblivion, but similiar. Its actually kinda hard to explain, go on youtube or something and see for yourself.
