You have two choices:
1) Go to the kitchen. You should see a bag of flour. Cover the pen in flour and gently rub it off.
2) Go into the main hallway. On the Restaurant's chalkboard, there will be some chalk. Cover the pen with chalk and gently rub it off.

how do you get melissa out of the unlocked room in chap 3 she is crying you go turn the lights on go back knock on the door and the he states he has to unlock the door with the wire but the bag with the wire does not come up before the lock comes up to be picked which i cannot pick because i have no wire can someone help plz!

So, you can't use the wire because the bag doesn't show up? Or you don't have the wire?
It's been a while since I've played this game, so I don't remember if you have to go to the wire manually or if the scene automatically goes to the door knob.
If it automatically goes to the door knob, just use your stylus, it should work like it did with Hyde's suitcase.

Thank yu for your reply. I realize I may not have been specific in my question, so I'll try to explain here. After getting the lights back on in room 218, Kyle returns to 218 to free Melissa. Here I actually tried to get the thick wire before i knocked on the door, but it didn't work (prompt could not use that now). After knocking on the door, I see no opportunity to get the wire. The bag never appears after the knock. So I never get the chance to get the wire. After the dialogue between Melissa and Kyle Iam not given another chance to the wire out of the bag. It goes to the lock and the wire is supposed to be used, but i have not been able to retrieve it. I find no way of getting the thick wire out of the bag.
