If I remember correctly you could switch between the Soul Calibur style command lists and one that corresponds with the controller buttons in the first two games. Haven't played the third, but I assume it's the same throughout the entire series.

This is exactly the reason why technical players can't use this format:

quote Final Blade
quote
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
PlayStation 2 Controls
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Walk Forward - Directional Button Right
Walk Backward - Directional Button Left
Sidestep In - Up, Up
Sidestep Out - Down, Down
Jump Up - Up, Triangle
Hop Back - Hold X, Tap Diagonal Up, Left
Hop Toward - Hold X, Tap Diagonal Up, Right
Crouch - Tap X, Down

Horizontal Attack - Square
Vertical Attack - Triangle
Kick - Circle
Guard - X
quote

Xbox Controls
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Walk Forward - Directional Button Right
Walk Backward - Directional Button Left
Sidestep In - Up, Up
Sidestep Out - Down, Down
Jump Up - Up, Y
Hop Back - Hold A, Tap Diagonal Up, Left
Hop Toward - Hold A, Tap Diagonal Up, Right
Crouch - Tap A, Down

Horizontal Attack - X
Vertical Attack - Y
Kick - B
Guard - A
quote
Battle Controls
-----------------------------
D-Pad ... Movement (8 Directions)
Left Analog ... Movement (8 Directions)
-----------------------------
Square ... A ... Horizontal
Triangle ... B ... Vertical
Circle ... K ... Kick
X ... G ... Guard
-----------------------------
L1 ... G ... Guard
R1 ... K ... Kick
L2 ... A+B ... Simultaneous
R2 ... A+B+K ... Soul Charge
This is what i was talking about. See how simple it is, and easy to remember. No one's going to remember that playing the game, especially on a controller.

FYI its from SC2+3 so here's my contributions.

Let's pretend I'm trying to tell somebody how to perform a combo. For example, here's one for Taki:

4A+B, B,A~A+K, B+G.

Using the format Final Blade posted, I'd have to say this:

Press Directional Button Left + Triangle and Square, then press Triangle, Square, followed quickly by Square + Circle. Then finally press Triangle + X.

Now... which method of SC Lingo looks easier to type down?

And that's a relatively short and simple one. Imagine how long it'd take for more in-depth discussion. =_=

The SC Terminology that SoulCalibur players use on the internet makes it a lot more simple and quicker to communicate.

Ray, what about when we have to hold the button? I propose we put a star next to the character (A*+B, etc) if we dont have a way of showing this.

I was sure that i once asked that q but just to make sure, the terms like Aa or aA, what are they used for? Is that when i tap the buttons simultaneously or just hold both?

I believe buttons you're required to hold down have [] around them (at least, that's the case in Tekken lingo).

So [B] would be holding down B.

(I'm going to have to edit the first post soon. -.-; )

Hey Ray, would you mind posting this over in the Xbox Version forum, or, would you mind if I quoted it and posted it over in the Xbox Version forum?

I doubt Ray have anything against that. Go a head and copy it, and ask a section mod to sticky the thread.

Maybe you should credit Ray at the end of the post though.

Alright. I posted it over there, and of course gave credit to Ray. I also posted a link over there for the 360 Stragglers to make their way over here. Since this seems to be the more popular area for SCIV.

I would like my mind to be cleared about (just input) cuz even though i have been able to perform them, i thought this meant just letting go of buttons after the input but it seems i can't do them this way but by rapidly pressing another one after.

Ex: 3AB kind of became to me: 3ABB.

A Just Input simply means you need to press the indicated button at the required frame(s) into the move/animation (whatever that may be varies with each move).

I don't believe there is a need to hold onto the button so long as you pressed it at the correct moment. There could be exceptions, but not to my knowledge.

Only w/ Hilde's moves, a good example would be Dragon's Breath stages 1-3
