for some strange reason the cut scenese have stopped playing for me all together. Its my first time through the game and I am very interested in the story line... is there any way to turn them back on?

Well, I'd at least check if the disc is in proper working condition.

Are you selecting the missions as normal? There is an option to skip them, though I'm pretty sure you wouldn't miss that XD
BTW: Not all missions have cutscenes, though most do (like, 8 or 9 out of 10 missions).
