Big big news guys. An official English release date confirmed, and it's exactly like I thought it would be; just a couple of months after the japanese release!

Check the pro-mo too!

Edit: OMG the promo. That alone will sell it millions.

There's a couple more promo video's released by Enterbrain. One of them to show off the 6 sample games that come bundled, and the other for the animations.

yeah, i've been looking 'round at those. you saw that 3d, animated battler sample game, right? i mean, that's like... exactly what everyone needs! unfortunatly, it isn't the base battle system

the event commands have been released as well...

I wouldn't get too excited about the battle system in that demo. It does look 3d, but it's still not something that couldn't be done with 2d animation. I'm practically conviced that that's what it is. There is a couple of RMXP demo's that showcase the same 2d technique, but useless for anyone graphically inept.

As for the system, it goes without saying really that it wouldn't take anytime at all for scripters to release all the battle systems under the sun for it. It's crying out for attention, so don't worry about that side of it. Already theres' a bunch of graphics released, which is just a hint of the kind of crazy resource frenzy that's likely to start given the retro resource handling (almost direct conversion from 00/03), and the new 'pleasent' tilesets. I mean did you see some of them in the demo's? They were amazing. The sounds and music in the demo's (particualy in the one without any graphics) was out of this world.

Is nobody trying this out? I've played the demo and tried to do a few things just now and my first impressions aren't really all that good. Mapping Layers don't even exist anymore, nevermind unlimited. The music is whiney, and the graphics aren't exactly inspiring. There are a couple of neat effects, but they are practically transparent in the demo, I'm sure they can be brought out and better used. Although I didn't really understand what was happening in the battles, they weren't at all kinetic as you would want them to be.

The graphics are detailed, but the simple style is really cramping it. I can't wait for some new tiles tbh. Tilesetting isn't allowed in the trail though. It's a little early to say if it's good enough to migrate over to, but after that run throuigh, I'm not feeling it yet.

i'm testing now...

in truth... except for the battle system, i kinda like it... it's the sameISH music, just a little lower quality. that's probably a feature of the demo.i like how they brought back vehicles, i like the auto-face-in-talk-window thing... i didnt really try out the eventing to much, but it looks good (of course, i can't read it )... and anyway, breadfan, what are you complaining about the layers? did you even TRY to map? it's a mapping thing... but then, there's A,B,C,D, and E... all of them with different things, but those are also the layers; A is lowest, E is highest... they basically made it 5 layers

Instead of this, i wish that they'd put in the RMXP battle system again. this one's horrible; no person battlers AT ALL. it's first person view, and it SUCKS!!!

I didn't complain about there being no layers, I just said that they don't exist. You're wrong in thinking that the sets differ the layering, you have a priority tag you can set to a tile by clicking that 'bumping' man on the toolbar. The star is an priority tile. What got me was that, without the layering of past makers, it makes custom tilesets a bit restricted. I think.

After a quick look over the Demo (it's 1:30 am here now), I noticed a Note to scripters in the RGSS section. I let Babel fish do a quick and nasty translation of it. But it seems that this updated version of RGSS may not be completely compatible with the XP version. It may be something a minor as tweaking bugs out of your old scripts before they will run properly or something as major as them completely rearranging the structure of their code to include variable names. I will try to get a better translation done in the daylight hours. If you are good with Japanese feel free to post a translation before me.
