Subject: Going To Start Working With Children Next Week.
-------------------------------------------
Hey guys, starting next week, I will be going to the orphanage every friday to work with children that are apparently from 6 - 10 years old. The reason is that I need to do Social Service as my school is offering the opportunity and most universities are starting to ask that at the moment you apply.
Anyways, it will be really the first time I will work with something like this, and I kinda need to know what children from 6 to 10 are learning this days and what kind of games I will be able to organize. Any help on this will be extremely helpful. Thanks.

I don't think very many people here really know the minds of todays six-to-ten-year-olds. The best thing I can say is to listen to them, they to get to know them personally, and then you'll know what to do.

6 to 10? That's a pretty fun age group. I would say try to get a game of tag or hide and seek going, as those were games I played all the time as a kid. Heck, I still play hide and seek.

If he is going to have them play games, then he should make up a fun, new game for them to enjoy. That'll get the kids to love him, for sure. Sometimes, it's just fun to break away from the routine games.

It really depends on your location, since your not in my country I don't really know. But in North America (Virginia to be exact) they should be learning how to read more in depth, math, coloring and other stuff like that.

Be very, very patient. They're gonna bug the hell outta you.
Don't get me wrong, I love kids. But 6-10 is what I call the range for the age of curiosity. Doubtless they'll ask you questions nonstop.

I was a year 4/5 teacher for two weeks and here's what I learnt:
They tend to respect older figures a lot more so if you put your foot down then they'll listen. Keep that in mind.
It takes ten times longer for them to do things than you think, so give them time.
I could have pulled out any game and they would have been happy to play. They loved heads down thumbs up ;P

Sei with young children?!
I'd avoid any social activity with the ones 8-10, they operate mainly in their own world, and my sister creates an organizational agenda in her mind, without telling anyone, and, being 9, that'd seem rare, but she tells me her teacher instructed her to do such. The younger the child, the more open and original they will be, until the teens.
