(All characters are unlocked from the get-go, which makes sense since you can't change between missions, and it's a Monster Hunter style game, where you're meant to pour all your effort into one character)

I started out with Sun Ce since he's been one of my favourite characters.
Though I ended up using Ma Chao, Zhou Tai, and Ling Tong as well.

unfortunately just choosing a character throughout the game isn't good enough. For a fact i know there will be a handful that run into difficulties with...the difficulty...that can't be change. Kinda forces you to use characters with "safe" movesets and subweapons. not exactly letting you do whatever as you please.
