Subject: Red Alert 2 fullscreen problems

Hello I may have came here before to ask this question because it has been haunting me ever since I got my laptop. Okay so I've tried basically everything I can think of to try to make this game play full screen. No matter what I do it always has black space around it. My screen is 1280x800. I don't see what the problem is either because my brother has a wide screen computer screen as well and it plays perfectly for him.
Specs for my Sony Vaio laptop:
List of things I've tried:
-Obviously trying to adjust it through the game itself
-Changing the resolution manually through configuration settings
-I've tried several patches, none of them fixes it
-Basically tried everything possible in properties>compatibility
I've tried several more things, and nothing seems to fix this full screen problem, please I need help with this.
