Hey, I'm new to FFXII... I'm just getting to the point wherein I'm about to sneak into the castle, and I'm running around training. A few questions for you all:

1) What level should I be before I try this mission out?
2) What armours should I be trying to obtain at this level, and where can I get armour such as bronze?
3) Where is the best place to powertrain at this point?

Honestly, you really shouldn't be worrying about any of those at that point.

You shouldn't worry about anything at this point.
You're still very far from being even half way through

Just go ahead as you would.

If rolling dungeonsnowball stuff collectors, don't forget to use all your Magic and Technics as you roll around, since it will affect your game play later on if you use them (make them stick to your cold, compacting sides ) a lot.

If you want to power level, Search the forum on how to chain Dustia.

Seeing as how no one here wants to help the newbie, I will.

1. Lvl 8-10 is a good range to start at when going into the castle area.

2. The best you can afford remains to be the only answer I can give you at this point. The bronze armor set has little chance of being found at this point.

3. The Westersand is bout the best place, depending on how long or short you wanna take to train to peak performance. In the northern part of Weatersand area, there are Cocktrice that are of a pretty high level. Thou you will be healing more than fighting at this point against them, the payoff of beating them is a nice fat chunk of EXP, and pretty much worth the wait.

With that being said, other things you will need is the best weapon you can find, and the Cure magick and Libra technik. Dont worry bout getting the lvl 1 black magick set just yet, you wont need it.

Hope this helps.

Lvl 8-10 would probably be best, but from experience I can tell you that it is possible at lvl 5. Good luck.

Derreck is right, but given the amount of time you will have and the terrain you will cross before you enter the Castle (Estersand, Westersand, & Giza Plains), going in at just Lvl 5 is fine, but a bit lazy, LoL

Alwhile, Ive done it at 5 before, so I cant say it cant be done. But nevertheless, the other tips are pretty much necessary. Otherwise, go in at your own risk at lower levels.

A good way to start off is after you get access to the westersand, buy at least 30 pheonix downs after getting money, go there, go to the place dirrectly north once you get there, lower to the battle speed to the slowest possible, lower your hp to 10%, then, a monster called the Dustia will appear, use a pheonix down on it and it will give you 1098 experience, if you leave the area before the experience and license show up, the thing will respawn after re-entering and you can repeat, I got to level 42 before the palace.

Try Level 80+ for fun. I saw Ashe10 from YouTube do it.

Hwhat?
Dungeonsnowball? I've never heard of that?
And it doesnt matter if u stick to physical attacks or magic earlier in the game, u can still use them at high lvls
(lol) And gameplay doesn't affect stat growth!
Is this guy spamming? Its quite annoying.

and 828 sphere, you don't have to worry at that point. But a word of advice.

Don't touch the Treasure in the corner of the palace

No spoilers, but just don't do it.

I used the Dustia method again on my new file and got to level 50, then, I created a save just for my new games and whenever I want to start a new game, I use it in order to skip the boring, if you do this, you won't really have to buy any weapons for a majority of the first half of the game.
