I have had the game for many years, and I just found it. The thing is, I can't play it at all.

Is it possible that I can get a code book so I can play it again?

If someone could help, it would be appreciated, please e-mail me at
yllibyllek@hotmail.com. Thanks for taking the time to read

Thing is, I think I'm having the exact same problem you're having. I bought a copy of the game off EBay, but it's just not cooperating with my computer. I can't get past the password screen, and when I try to play Jack In The Dark it ends up in French. I give up on computer games. I'm sticking with Playstation. LOL. Too bad they didn't release 1 and 3 on PS, because I'd snap them up in a heartbeat.

Wow, I didn't think anyone would reply!
I apologize SerialZero and Seraphan for not responding earler. After a few months, I thought the post would have gone away. I gues not....

I am not looking for a FAQ or walkthrough, I am looking to see if anyone has the origional passcode book that came with the game
Anyway, I do not think the codes in French will work. This is for the old DOS version of the game, when Windows 3.11 was the big thing. I should have been more specific on the codebook; there is apparently different ones for different games.
The book I am looking for origionally has a small book attached to it, about the size of four or five matchbooks stacked on top of eachother. Inside of the book, there are lots of bible-thin pages in it; each page consists of a page number, and two tangable objects in the game. As an example, when you would start the game, it would tell you a page number, and you would have to scroll through the objects and match them up. Let's say it asked you for page 103. You would have to flip to that page in the litte book, and, if it were a lantern and a knife, you would have to indicate that. If you were to guess wrong, it would ask for a different page. After three strkes, it automatically exits the game, preventing trial-and-error passcodes.
The game was totally in English. There were no French hints in the game. The origional maker of it was Rareware; the logo on the splash screen was an armadillo.
I am not sure on how the other games now play, but this was simple. You started in a room, and the first monster you encounter is a zombie, then later, a messed up creature that resembles a purple bird that cannot fly. Early in the game, you come across a large hallway, and if you try to cross the hall, the floor breaks and you plummel to your death.

I posted something similar at this address

You are my savior!!!!!
I have not tried it yet, but if this is for the PC game of Alone in the Dark 1, this is
EXACTLY what I need!
Heh, I have another issue about the game...now all I have to do is find where I put it. I got a new computer a few months ago, and I sold my old one. I have to find the game to re-install it...maybe I'll pick another one up at eBay
Thanks for all your help. Out of the countless places I posted, this is the only board that had ever responded to my cries. I now know where to find my information

Glad you're actually getting somewhere, because I would have been no help at all. When I recieved my copy of AITD 1 it didn't come with any of the booklets and/or instructions. Hooray for wasting money on a computer game that won't work on my computer! Why doesn't Bruno Bonnell, or DarkWorks, or Kokopelli, or whatever friggin' company made AITD 1 and 3 just re-release them on Playstation for the benefit of us poor console users who only have half the collection? *Sniff*
