I have a few questions. When you go into the free ride mode can you find or buy any gun you want? And the other question is can you shoot it up with the other gangsters in free ride?

"Free Ride" is available from the very start, however as you play you'll unlock new features for it (for example, new starting cars, different weather conditions, different city areas and so on). "Free Ride Extreme" is unlocked after game completion and features some extra missions to carry out after the game's story is over.

True Crime: Streets of LA in the way that you have a "go anywhere, do anything" ability. While it may seem like that at first, it is actually a very deep and involving story-driven third person game.

Someone said there are side missions for a mechanic to unlock cars. Are those available from the start? Where do you go to access them?

Yep, after a certain point in the game you can drop by Lucas Bertone's garage after completing missions to do side quests to gain new cars for use in other main missions.

Yeah, those are fun. I like the whole city lay out in Mafia. Chicago in the 1930s seemed awesome. It would have been fun to smuggle alcohol with the mob.

You do! There are a couple of missions that involve you to smuggle in some kentucky whiskey or something (I forgot what it was but I believe the stuff was from kentucky) to the city.
