I installed the DirectVob--with WinMedia10.0.
After installing, the movie will not play at all. Uninstalled and now the movie plays again--but back to the srt file issue.
Any other solutions?

The first result on Google for "VLC Player" is http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - the official site. You'll want to download it from there. The Windows version should work on all types of Windows - 98, 2000, XP, etc.
.Dmg files are installers for Mac OSX. There are two types - one for the "old" Macs and one for the newer, Intel-based.
If you decide to use VLC Player, then you might want to go to the options window and choose your own font, because I believe that VLC uses an ugly one by default. Go to Video -> Subtitles/OSD -> Text renderer. Hit the Browse button and search for a font file. (Most of your fonts are located in c:\windows\fonts) You can also change the color and size here.

Hello,
I use Windows Media Player to play .avi files with .srt files.
I downloaded the DirectShow filter file. I also had to make sure that the option to "show captions" was on in WMP.
I have WMP 11, and to do this you go to
1. options
2. security
3. Make sure there is a checkmark in the "show local captions when present"
I had all the same problems u did. I downloaded the VLC player and was just unhappy with it because even though it worked, I couldn't find a full screen mode. Anyway, I kept searching and found that I had to turn subtitles on in WMP as I gave directions for above. I uninstalled the ffdshow and reinstalled the DirectShow file, and using the settings above, everything works fine now... =)

some stuff in this topic really helped me out, but can anyone reccomend me an easy way to get video and subs (srt files) together so you can burn em on a dvd?

Either with DirectVobSub or with ffdshow
I've used both, and ffdshow seems to be faster with starting up, and takes up less resources, but either work fine with any WMP edition.
Once installed, make sure your .srt file has the exact same name as your media file.
E.g. you want to play FindIng-NemO.mpg make sure the srt will be this: FindIng-NemO.srt (f2, ctrl+c on the movie then ctrl+v on the srt)
If done correctly, on DirectVobSub you'll get to see a green arrow in the right lower right part of your screen, and with ffdshow you'll get to see either an audio and/or video codec icon in the lower right part of your screen.

i am playing my dvd using wmp 9...it played with subtitle but i doesn't have a sound... i played it to vlc now it got a sound but it has no subtitle...when i installed wmp11 and played my dvd there...it cant read my dvd...it always not respond to it..when i uninstall it (wmp11) and rolled back to the older version of the wmp,,,hoping that i could still watch dvd even though it has no sound,,suddenly it doesnt played. why is that??

i already choose subtitle..i already checked it ..when playing on vlc...i also tried downloading srt files but it still doesnt show subtitle

To those of you using VLC, enjoy your ugly subtitles.
With minimal work, you can get everything that VLC does to work better than it does on VLC in Windows Media Player or MPC.

Use smplayer. http://smplayer.sourceforge.net its automatically detects ur srt file if placed in the same folder as the movie file.
Make sure the srt ile name is exactly the same as the movie files but with .srt extension as mentioned in earlier posts.

sorry guy. after reading the whole of .srt files, i have a problem now.
i using mplayerc to watch video but i came across this file.srt and i had downloaded the ffdshow. i'm stuck with the problem with the icon below.
after i install everything i open up FFV decoder. 2 question to ask is 1. did i open the correct one? 2. did i need to set anything or just press okay and it appear at the bottom right corner?

Hello guys.
I have little issue with sutitles. There is a slight delay between them and a movie. I use VLC player and renamed subtitle file exactly as a movie name.
So why there is a little delay? Need your help.
