Go to the directory named "VMS "
Turn the file wing01.vms into wing01.vms.bak
If you have XP change the properties of the game in WIN 98 compatibility mode
It works for me... I hope it will work for you.

Well it's seems that the <L and R> buttons doesn't work in the pc game the game designers forgot in the setup about two buttons

I, too, have a problem with Grandia 2 FMVs. A black screen with sound in the opening. I haven't played further than that yet, so I don't know if this applies for all FMVs in the game. I'm using XP without Service Pack.
A compatibility issue with XP perhaps?

I use to have this problem too but then I realised that my graphic card is set on 4x antialias and 2x anisotropic filtering. I turned these filtering off and then all the FMVs work in the game.
I am using windows xp pro and found know problem with the game so far.
Hope this helps.

Actually, the <L and R> buttons on the PC version are the same as the rotate camera left and right buttons (defaults to Home and Pg-Up).
Too bad they didn't mention that...

I solved a little prob: I can see the main menu (start new game or load saved game --> it's not much but it's a start)
step 1:
go to your Grandia II folder and change the map's name VISUAL to VISUAL 2
step 2:
insert your play disc in your drive and click on it in explorer so you can see the contents
step 3:
on your CD there's also a map called visual. Copy that map and paste it in your Grandia II folder
Now you should be able to see the main menu.
I know it's not much, but it's a start, if I find an answer to other probs, I'll let it know
greetings

Ya I'm running XP Pro and I get to New Game and nothing after. Looks like I'll have to go back to my ME systems to play the game again :-(

Found a way for all with XP experiencing problems.
First copy the all the visual (movie files into the Grandia folder on your HD)
Second make sure you have the correct codecs to play the files (IN 32. Indeo Video 32, the kazaa lite codec pack should have it)
That should be it since it's working for me now :-)

Hello, people. I have yet another problem with the PC version. =__=
It happens every once in a while - the game locks up the movement keys. =_____= In example - the player/party starts moving down for no reason, just as if I'm pushing the 'down' key. Sometimes it stops, sometimes it doesn't. But the problem is that at one point it started to move to the left [can't be helped so far] and I actually saved a game somewhere in the middle of it. And now whenever I load my game, it just starts moving left. Don't want to load an older game, since it's about two hours of gameplay earlier - I tend to use about four to five save slots max [gives You the so-wanted adrenalin spike, doesn't it ;-)].
I've tried key re-definition - didn't work, it's somewhere in the savegame.
Is there a way to solve this problem, or do I have to finish the game fighting with the controls?
My email is
freeman@icpnet.pl . If someone finds a way to get rid of the problem, please feel free to mail me.
By the way - if You can't get through with the codecs, there is a rude but efficient way to solve the problem: just uninstall your codecs [all of them! clean it all up!], and see if the animations work [play the .avi files]. If they do - install your most-needed codecs [i.e. divx 5.1.1, xvid and so on], but try to avoid some special mpeg codecs like AngelPotion, I've seen the game using APvc Definitive V1 for the cinematics. It's tricky, but should work, as the game should utilize DirectX's built-in 'Video Renderer'. get rid of all of the codec layers on top of it, and it should go fine.
