Minipic Advance Wars Completed! GBA Filter by GBA This was the first game that I got and completed on the GBA. I was addicted by the graphics at first, which were pretty well done, and I continued on with not only this game, but the next two in the series as well due to the level of strategy that is needed to succeed in this game.
It was this game and the next one in the series [AW2: Black Hole Rising] that helped me develop better strategizing skills, which I now use in my everyday life.
I was also hooked by an excellent storyline throughout the main game as well. The added modes, including War Room, Versus, and a mode in which you can create your own battlefield called Design Maps are a nice bonus as well to provide countless hours of gameplay.
My only real complaint is that during the Fog of War missions in the Advance Campaign, your vision was limited whist it seemed like the enemy could pick you off from well outside their vision range. It's a cheap way for the opposition to win; taking a term from Advance Wars: Dual Strike the enemy does this via a Mistwalker of sorts.
I would play this game again because of how addicting and fun it is to play, and the combat system is easy to learn as well. This is a classic game that should be in the library of every GBA owner.

Minipic Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising Completed! GBA Filter by GBA The day that this game was available in the stores I went out and got it at Wal-Mart in my hometown (I was in high school and had a job at the time, so I could purchase new games more frequently then I can when I'm unemployed). As good as Advance Wars was, the sequel was much improved, proving that sometimes lightning does strike twice.
The graphics were improved so it didn't quite look like a game that could have fit on the SNES back in the day. The new CO's helped keep the series fresh; along with new battle elements and an improved AI make this game a challenge for all gamers of any age.
The storyline was even better than the first game, giving this game more of a realistic military feel to it. You can also select which mission to play to an extent, which allowed gamers to pick the order that they take through the main storyline. There are new maps for the War Room and Versus modes with all the War Room and Versus maps from the previous game, and Design Maps makes a nice return.
Having gained some skills in strategy from the previous game, those skills allowed me to do well at this game. Said skills improved considerably with this game, making me an even better gamer and strategist than I was before the Advance Wars series came to the United States.
I would definitely play this game again without a doubt; this game is a classic that should be in every GBA owner's game library.

Minipic Advance Wars Dual Strike Completed! DS Filter by DS (Hours taken is for the Story mode only)
I got this game almost as soon as it was released (which I could do at the time because I was working a summer job during the summer of '05) because knowing how good AW1 and 2 were, I figured that Dual Strike would be much better, and I was correct. The graphics got an awesome upgrade thanks to the graphic power of the DS (and knowing how good the graphics were in the first two games that's saying something). I liked the addition of new characters to suppliment the old cast because new characters always help to keep a series fresh regardless of what that series is. They added more new units than they did to make your choice of units look more like a real army, but my favorite part of this game is the amount of statistics that this game keeps like this is a pro sport.
New modes are also added to keep the game fresh after clearing the storyline: Scenarios that limit time, money, and turns; a combat mode (real- time combat game), versus mode via a wireless connection, and the return of War Room with old and new War Room maps.
The best new features include entering battle with two CO's-called a tag battle-a deadly Tag Power in which both CO's use their Super CO Powers in the same turn, battles that take place on two screens (a DS battle), and challenging new missions that will leave you playing this game for hours upon hours of fun.
I would definitely play this game again without a doubt.

Minipic Banjo-Kazooie Completed! N64 Filter by N64 This is one of those games that comes along and grabs your interest like a tiger being taken by the tail. The graphics were done excellently with smooth gameplay and a very good story line with a good dose of comedy, some of which would be defined as "crude humor."
The one spot in which I got tied up was trying to access Rusty Bucket Bay; attempting to access it added a good six to eight hours to the posted playing time. Even so, the challenges were a strong test and good for taxing the mind.
I was disappointed that there weren't any multiplayer challenges in this game because I enjoy testing my gaming skills against other gamers. I was also disappointed that the only way to redo any of the challenges was through Grunty's Quiz towards the end of the game, only these challenges were harder. Plus, it was challenging while being transformed because only one of the forms had an attack, meaning the only way to deal with enemies was to evade them, and that could be a nuisance at times.
Despite those three setbacks I would definitely play this game again because of how much fun it was to play; hopefully sequels come out on Nintendo consoles because Nintendo is where this series started thanks to the people at Rare. Even though Rare was bought out by Microsoft, Rare should still be allowed to make games for other consoles because that would be fair to Microsoft's competition.

Minipic Banjo-Tooie Completed! N64 Filter by N64 As much fun as Banjo--Kazooie was, this game was even more fun. The graphics were nicely improved from the previous game, the gameplay was tweaked for improvement (each transformation could attack, and that was a much needed change from the last game); add in all the new moves, concepts, and items and what you have is better gameplay with solid control depth! The storyline is even better than the first game, and even funnier whilst providing some "crude humor" as well.
I also liked the addition of multiplayer to the series, something that my dad and I would play on occassion. We would do the one-on-one battles, which were always a blast, and sometimes play some of the minigames that were featured in this game. I really enjoyed replaying the minigames because of the enjoyment that I got out of them, especially the sports-oriented minigames. Those are always fun to play.
With all the things that were added, Banjo--Tooie surpasses its prequel by a long shot. I would definitely play this game again (hopefully we'll see a sequel on a Nintendo console sometime in the future).

Minipic EarthBound Completed! SNES Filter by SNES I've had a lot of fun playing this game over the years. From the beginning I was hooked with the storyline, the gameplay, the battle system, the graphics, and the humor that is spread throughout the game. While I didn't get some of the jokes until I was older, it didn't stop me from enjoying this game thoroughly and I would absolutely play it again, either on the SNES or as part of a re-release deal. Seriously, it's a shame that this is the only game in the "Mother" series to reach North America--I probably would have enjoyed playing those games as well. Mar 15, 96

Minipic Earthworm Jim Completed! SNES Filter by SNES Another game that I played and completed as a result of renting it. Gameplay may not have been the smoothest but it had a way of keeping a gamer honest: if you weren't precise, you wouldn't reach your destination.
I would probably take this fun challenge on again, even though there are some parts that I wouldn't show my girlfriend because she might get grossed out because of those segments, and I wouldn't want that to happen!

Minipic Earthworm Jim 2 Completed! SNES Filter by SNES I had a lot of fun with this game while it was on rental. The graphics were decent, the gameplay-just like Earthworm Jim-kept gamers honest in the sense that if you weren't precise, you wouldn't get to where you wanted to go. While there were some segments that got a little gross, there were also some segments that were comical, albeit some of them were in the category of crude humor.
The soundtrack wasn't anything special, but it was-as the cow (no joke) would say-"well done." I would probably play this game again, especially if I needed some comedy relief.

Minipic GoldenEye 007 Mastered! N64 Filter by N64 I didn't own this game until early 2002-meaning I had to rent this game until then, beating it as a rental-but once I purchased this game, I knew it was a game in which I could have a lot of fun while playing one of the best mind-testing games of all time.
With the AI reacting to every move that you make, it requires you to always think of how to defeat your foes, and it keeps you on your toes. In other words, you could get caught slipping for one second and that can be what takes you down.
Gameplay is smooth and the controls are fairly easy to learn, but the advanced AI kind of makes you feel like you've been thrown into the fire. A training mode would have been a help in learning the controls, however; the controls are a short timeto learn and a long time to master them efficiently.
The graphics are impressive and not only proof of what the N64 could do, but a glimpse of things to come for future games for not only the N64, but for all consoles across the industry. This is a cornerstone game for the N64 and I would play this game again without a doubt.

Minipic Kirby Super Star Completed! SNES Filter by SNES This was a fun game to play; first by rental, then by way of owning the game. Even those who haven't played a single Kirby game before can easily pick up on the controls, which are easy to learn.
Each game has it's own unique element. The first game is based off of the first Kirby game, the second game also has a few levels with more of the game's abilities, the third game requires you to find up to 60 Treasures (which I have done), the fourth game is unlocked after clearing game two or three and each level has a time limit, and the fifth game is unlocked only after clearing games 2, 3, and 4. In addition, you have to use a different style of copying abilities called the DX Copy, but once you collect that DX Copy ability, you can use that ability for the rest of the game.
Clearing that game unlocks a special boss challenge where you have to defeat all 19 of the game's bosses, and there is also a food-based race game to go with two other minigames as well.
As I alluded to earlier, the controls are easy to learn and flow smoothly, and some of the bosses can be a challenge, but they sometimes move in patterns that can be learned and eventually predicted. Even so, some of the bosses can be quite the challenge, especially Meta-Knight.
I would definitely play this game again; anyone who is a fan of Kirby should definitely own this game without a doubt.

Minipic Kirby's Dream Course Completed! SNES Filter by SNES Originally I rented this game as a multiplayer back in the day, but I rented it again to give the single-player mode a try. I was hooked from that point on, and would continue to play this game until I eventually cleared all 8 courses in both the Normal and Extra courses.
This is the sort of game that is like real golf in the sense that it takes a few minutes to learn but a longer time to master, and I would be a prime example of that because I picked up on the concepts quickly, but mastering those concepts took a while, and was longer considering that the only way that I could play this game back then was to rent the game. But each time I rented it I got better each and every time I played it until I cleared the Normal mode on the date shown (taking a guess on that). While it took until June '96 for me to clear the Expert mode, it was well worth it because of how challenging the Expert mode is.
Like I said, the controls are easy to learn but a challenge to master; the gameplay may seem easy in the beginning, but trust me--the farther you advance in the 1P mode, the harder that it gets.
I purchased this game recently at a pawn shop back home, and am waiting for the chance to take this challenge by the horns again!

Minipic Mega Man 2 Mastered! NES Filter by NES I started playing this game as a rental in the early 90's, back when NES games were being rented at our local supermarket. I got pretty good at it, learned the ropes, and cleared the first 8 bosses.
Unfortunately, when they stopped renting out NES games at our grocery store, I was out of luck until finding a copy of this game at a local pawn shop in 2002. I purchased this game and proceeded to beat it within a few days of purchasing it, ending a journey that began in the early 90's but was put on hold for about ten years. Call that perserverence, but I think that it's amazing that I even remembered the basics of this game, along with how to beat each boss--most people forget these things after not playing a game for about 10 years.
The gameplay is solid and smooth in this game with a nice soundtrack that you won't soon forget. This is one of my favorite games in Mega Man Anniversary Collection because it is the game that helped to define the Mega Man series, even in its early days.
This game is amongst one of the all-time classics, and it should be in every NES collector's-or diehard Mega Man fan's-library. It's in mine, and I would definitely play it again.

Minipic Mega Man Star Force: Pegasus Completed! DS Filter by DS Actual Completion Time: 17 hr 8 min

As the first game of this particular Mega Man franchise, I had a hunch that the game would make an impact in terms of storyline quality. And my hunch was dead-on. The storyline reminded me of the storyline of MMBN6 in the way that it just pulls you in and never lets you go--similar in the way that a reader cannot put down a good book.
The changes in the battline system took some getting used to, but after getting used to that I think that the changes were helpful and were a necessity to keep things fresh from the BN series. Aalthough I would have preferred to have kept the Program Advances from the Battle Network Series, the Best Combo system is pretty cool as well.
I was surprised that there was no "underworld" type of area like the Undernet was in the Battle Network series. Maybe something like that will appear in a future game, which is inevitable in the Mega Man universe of games.

I've gotten all 6 symbols and defeated Andromeda Infinity. The last parts of it-PegasusSP and Andromeda Infinity-were the hardest, forcing me to put mroe of an emphasis on defensive battle cards. But it worked, and that's all that counts!

Minipic Mega Man X Mastered! PC Filter by PC Some time after beating the SNES version of this game, I got the PC version of the game. Unfortunately, due to being unable to understand how to go past the intro stage, it took longer than anticipated to complete this game. That is, until I figured out that just accessing the game without the game's CD was the way to go.
The tracks for this game didn't sound as good as the SNES version, but I think the computer had something to do with that.
This was the first time that I had completed a game using a keyboard as my means of controller input. It wasn't easy, but I got used to it after adjusting the controls so that ALT+Spacebar wasn't used at the same time.
But the different control setup gave me a new challenge, and that was one that I certainly relished taking on.
Still, the game was fun to play, and it's definitely one that I would play again, but probably on a newer computer (one that I can use with the PC Controller that I have).

This is probably the best game overall in the Metroid Prime subplot. The controls work extremely well with the Wii and I would like to see this implemented in a future 3-D Metroid game.
Speaking of which, they should definitely do something with the cliffhanger that's at the end of the game, which can only be seen by collecting 100% Items. Minipic New Super Mario Bros. Completed! DS Filter by DS It was ten years in between the previous side-scrolling Mario Bros game and this one. It was well worth the wait, and then some.
The graphics were done nicely to a state-of-the-art level, the controls are easy to learn, and new moves and abilities were added in. But one ability was taken out that I was rather fond of: flying. Would it have killed them to put a flying item in, such as a Super Leaf or Cape Feather? That would have been a nice addition.
Even so, I love crushing the enemies with the Mega Mushroom.
For the next game, I would like to see the flying ability restored and a few extra bonus surprises, like the 1985 SMB and SMB: The Lost Levels (SMB 2 in Japan) as unlockables. I would definitely play this game again.
Collected all three stars on my game file.

The hours taken is closer to how long it would take me to beat most games in the series with Red being the lone exception.

And the AI has been tweaked a bit to make the game a little more harder, meaning some strategies that may have worked before won't work now. Two new Pokemon types, about 200 new techniques and 100 new Pokemon prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
But that's not all folks. There were two major things about the Crystal version that weren't in Gold and Silver: you could make multiple specialty PokeBalls at a person's house in Azalea (sic) Town, and a Battle Tower was added in. The AI of the trainers in the Battle Tower is significantly higher than the average field trainer, so strategize well.

The other reason why I took so long to complete this game has no reflection on my skills as a gamer--it's because of how much I enjoyed the new features of this game, and now that I'm working a job I have less time available to play video games. I would definitely play this game again if I got the chance; if this game gets re-released on VC, then they better attach Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow versions to this game as well.
The only real complaint that I had with this game is that the Transfer Pak was a little too sensitive; even a very slight shift in the position of the transfer pak would cause a game malfunction. I remember back in the day of the original SM64 that there were actually 150 stars in the game. The rumor was obviously false, but it makes me wonder if the one who started that rumor had a potential remake/upgrade in mind.

Collected all 150 stars and unlocked all Mini-Games. Whatever 3-D Super Mario game comes next on the DS is going to have a tough act to follow, and I'm looking forward to it!

Minipic Super Mario All Stars Completed! SNES Filter by SNES (Note: the dates and times are for beating all four games).
This was one of the three games that my dad purchased with his SNES back in 1993, and one that I personally liked because it had three of the old games and a game that I hadn't played before, SMB: The Lost Levels, come to find out years later that that was the original Super Mario Bros 2, but it wasn't released in the US for the NES because the powers-that-be at Nintendo of America felt that that particular game would be too hard. And that game was hard, let me tell you!
Out of all four games, The Lost Levels gave me the most trouble and took the longest to complete.
I beat this game's version of Super Mario Bros before beating the NES version, and it took a week or so before I could replicate the feat.
I also beat this games version of Super Mario Bros 2 before beating the NES version.
Overall game completion order:
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
I don't remember my high scores for each (if applicable), but would play this game again regardless.

Minipic Super Mario Bros. Mastered! NES Filter by NES As posted, originally beaten in 1995. Have beaten the game several times since, including once in front of some of the residents of my college dorm in 2006. This was the first time that I had beaten all 32 levels without using any warps, continuing, or as Luigi. Not only did I break 1 Million points in the process, but I finished the game with only one life left; the guy who was playing as Mario lost all his lives earlier. Talk about everything or nothing, grace under pressure, taking the bull by the horns; I would go on but I can't think of any more cliches!
This is a timeless classic that I would pick up and play again if given the chance.

Minipic Super Mario Bros. 2 Completed! NES Filter by NES Out of the original Super Mario Bros. Trilogy, this is the game that gave me the most trouble. Probably because of the controls that were unique to this game (and there was no other game like this in the series). This is a timeless classic that despite a concept unique to the Mario Bros series, I would pick up and play if given the chance. Q3 1998

Minipic Super Mario Bros. 3 Mastered! NES Filter by NES This was the first video game that I ever owned; got it during Christmas of 1991 with my NES. I still own the same game cartridge and console that I got back then, and both work perfectly. The gameplay was solid with excellent graphics (at the time) with a well rounded cast and a world map, allowing-to an extent-what level would be chosen to play. I would have beaten this game sooner, but I cracked my left clavicle during the February Vacation in 1992. I missed playing this game and my bowling league for three weeks until it healed; my arm was in a sling for the whole time.

I don't remember what my high score was exactly, but it was in the range of 1.5-1.7 Million. It's been so long I would have to play the game again just so I could have a high score to post, but I have finished with more than 90 lives before.

Minipic Super Mario Kart Completed! SNES Filter by SNES The summer in which an alternate location to rent video games (one other than a grocery store) was a good one for me; this is one of the first games that I tried. Had a lot of fun, but I also had to go 2-player and battle against mom and dad at sporadic points.
I quickly fell in love with the idea of attacking enemies with shells, banana peels, blowing past them with a speed boost or starman (sometimes using the latter to knock someone out of the way, hehehe), jumping over walls with a Cape Feather (the only Mario Kart to feature this item), or sometimes shrinking my opponents with a Lightning Bolt and then proceeding to squash them flat! Only problem was that items were too limited, but that did create an element of strategy.
I would probably play this game again.

Minipic Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Mastered! GBC Filter by GBC I remember this game well. Out of the Super Mario Land series, this was the one that stood out as the classic because it had the gameplay and map screen features that made Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World the big hits that those two games were.
This game was a lot of fun to play back in the day, and I'll have to play it again to post a high score. But I can claim this: I have played and cleared every single level.

Minipic Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Mastered! SNES Filter by SNES This was always a fun game to play, originally as a rental, but eventually got a copy of my own. I remember the completion date for a dubious reason: it was nine days after I had gotten sick and puked in my mom's christmas flowers [on Christmas Eve 1996]. It's gross but it's a true story. My mom had to take over in the midst of the Megasmilax battle. Obviously not one of my better Christmas-or video game-memories, but the silver lining is that I haven't puked since.
The gameplay is simplistic and easy to pick up on with a nice battle system, characters, a Bruce Lee reference (no joke), and some timely humor.
What bogged me down was that password segment in the Sunken Ship; it took hours to figure that one out. Between that and finding my way to Bean Valley is why my game time is inflated above the 20 hour mark. I can definitely get below that today.
Not only would I play this game again, I would like to see this game either get upgraded or to have a sequel or prequel made based off of this game.

Minipic Super Mario Sunshine Completed! GC Filter by GC Out of all the games that I have beaten over the years, this one had the strangest concept. I had fun playing this game and might play it again.
The only problem that I had was that there were no real "surprises," per se; I figured out who the final boss was fairly quickly. If a similarly-made game is made in the future, then shouldn't it be made obvious who the final boss is from the get-go? Just wondering, that's all.

Minipic Super Mario World Mastered! SNES Filter by SNES This is a combined playing time of taking nearly 52 weekends of playing this video game with my dad (keep in mind that my parents were divorced at the time, and since I didn't have a SNES at the time, my playing time with this game was severely limited to that amount of playing time). If I were able to play the game more often back in 1994 (I remember this date because I played this game quite a bit while I had chicken pox for two weeks in March whilst I was in 2nd Grade), it probably would have taken me a month or so to beat it, considering that my gaming skills when I was a little kid pale in comparison to what they are now.
This game is an instant classic that should be in every collector's library, whether you're a fan of Nintendo or not. I would play this game again without a doubt in my mind.

Minipic Super Metroid Mastered! SNES Filter by SNES This is amongst my favorite games in the series. It offered up excellent graphics with solid gameplay; until I owned this game I rented it whenever I got the chance; I would play this game again if given the chance.
I have completed this game in 2 hours and 50 minutes (getting the best ending) with 100% completion.
A remake or re-release of this game in the future couldn't hurt, and would make for a nice game to play.

Minipic Super Smash Bros. Completed! N64 Filter by N64 This was a fun game to play on the N64, even though I played it via rentals. A killer soundtrack with a small all-star cast and easy-to-learn controls make this a game that you'll have hours of fun with!
My only problem was that the overall cast was fairly small and there weren't that many characters overall (12); more characters would have added more variety to the single-and multiplayer-battles.

Minipic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Mastered! GBA Filter by GBA Thankfully "Total Games Played" was changed to "Total Lives Lost" in the end credits, making it easier to finish with three zeros at the end, which I found to be very annoying. Even so, I still performed a successful wire-to-wire run with zero lives lost for old times' sake. Only thing I haven't done is the new cave that's on the right side of the Golden Pyramid, but that's because I haven't had anybody to link with! A game that I would definitely replay anyway. Minipic The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Completed! DS Filter by DS Overall the gameplay was solid, but I found using the stylus for movement, attacks, and (especially) drawing shapes and maps to be akward at first, but I got used to it. Call it a "learning curve" for someone who is used to movement via a control pad and actions with the multiple buttons. I'll have more on that later.

I thought the graphics were great, especially for the DS--this game showed us the potential that 3D graphics possess with this handheld. Expect more games with solid 3D graphics in the near future, but that's just me.

As for improving the gameplay, I would take the action markings andn put them out of the way on the Touch Screen because I've had more than a few occassions where an action-such as a menu or the weapon slot get in the way, throwing off what I'm trying to get done.

I'd like to see a sequel to this, possibly a retconning of Link's Awakening and/or a follow-up game to Awakening. Something to keep the current storyline going, but that's what I would like to see sometime in the near future.

Minipic The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap Completed! GBA Filter by GBA I had a lot of fun playing this game. It was a pretty good challenge with nice items, a strong storyline, all the elements that are expected in any Legend of Zelda game; the elements that make the Legend of Zelda series as great as it is.
I completed this game with zero lives lost (on my second playthrough), merged all the Kinstone pieces, and found every single Piece of Heart with a minimal level of assistance (had to log on to either Neoseeker or Nintendo.com for assistance in finding all the items, along with a few secrets as well, such as the Mirror Shield).
I'm waiting for the next handheld Legend of Zelda game, which is likely to be released for the Nintendo DS. Even so, I would definitely play this game again--it was pretty fun!

Minipic The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Completed! GC Filter by GC Got this game at a local pawn shop for $15 instead of paying $49.88 at Wal-Mart. It paid off, as I had a lot of fun with this game, and would play it again.
One of the most unique challenges presented in this game (and one of my favorites) is the second quest, and with it, a color pictograph box, allowing gamers to take pictures and turn them in to the figurine maker. The real challenge is in getting all the figurines. Haven't got them all yet; this would be a great accomplishment.
Completed game with 20 hearts and zero lives lost.

I had a lot of fun playing this game and will play this game again in the near future to find everything--that is, once I have the time.
Completed game with zero lives lost and without reading any articles in a magazine, calling for assistance, or going online to look at guides. In other words I beat this game using my own intuition, and it wasn't an easy feat to pull off!

Minipic The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Completed! Wii Filter by Wii This was a lot of fun to play on the Wii, and a great game overall. The biggest difference between the Wii and Game Cube versions of this game is that I worked up a heavy sweat in the very last battle; the only other time I ever sweat as heavy as I did then is when I did TaeBo as part of a weightlifting class during Senior Year of High School.
I will eventually get everything that is in this game once the time becomes available.
I also hope to repeat this great Legend of Zelda experience with the next game that comes out in this series......that is, once that particuluar game comes out.

Minipic Yoshi's Island Completed! SNES Filter by SNES Still growning up and having to share one TV in my house at the time of playing this game, my playing time was rather limited. Even furthering my limitations of playing this game, I had to rent this game at our local grocery store. Sometimes I would get lucky and rent the same game on back-to-back weeks; other times it would be a month before I rented the same game again.
I didn't let these limitations stop me from becoming a talented gamer, however. I soldiered on with the best of them.
At first the gameplay was tricky to pick up on when compared to other games in the series because I wasn't familiar with the concept of Yoshi swallowing enemies to form eggs and then throwing said eggs, but I caught on and mastered it nonethless. The graphics were well done with a nice soundtrack. I would definitely play this game again; at least the controlls won't take as long for me to master the second time around.
Have scored 100% on all stages in the game (and it took a lot of work to do it too since I wasn't using a player's guide, using only instinct and exploration know-how; good thing I have a good sense of direction or this could have taken longer).
