Activision apparently decided the world had gone on too long without a Guitar Hero compilation game, so they've announced a new title composed of the most popular tunes from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's, and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock -- Guitar Hero Greatest Hits.

Guitar Hero Greatest Hits will feature a number of play modes, including Band Career and 8-player "Battle of the Bands," which allows two full bands to compete online, choosing from a tracklist of 48 master recordings.  Gamer-rockers can also compose their own music to share with the world through the Music Studio, GHTunes and Rock Star Creator game modes from Guitar Hero World Tour.

Curious?  Activision prepared a teaser trailer and screenshots for Guitar Hero fans.  This latest compilation title will be out some time in the summer for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and 2, and the Nintendo Wii.
