Alec Holmes has created an app for Google Android that is sure to stir up some controversy, and maybe even a lawsuit. Torrent Droid allows users to scan the bar code on a DVD package using the phone's camera, locate a torrent on The Pirate Bay, and then send the torrent to your home computer where it is downloaded via µTorrent.
The app is not currently ready for release, however Alec plans to sell the app via his website, Zerofate.com. Alec also hope to be able to support additional torrent sites besides TPB as well as additional torrent clients in future versions of his app. A java based, Windows Mobile version may also appear down the road.
Don't get your hopes up for an iPhone version of Torrent Droid though, it's not likely to happen. Alec doesn't have the resources available to create an iPhone app. Of course, it would never make it past Apple in the app store approval process and if something like this were to be developed it would most certainly be only for jailbroken iPhones.
Unlike torrent sites, this won't have the convenient excuse "It's not up to us what people decide to post". The only real thing this can be used for, is to DL DVD video files.
Still cool, from a technical point of view.
