T-shirts condemn violent games, retailers cave to pressure
We reported yesterday that German politicians are, once again, condemning violent video games after a 17-year-old German boy went on a shooting spree using his father's gun (and ammunition). As our report showed, intellectuals are warning against pointing fingers, but is anyone listening to their advice?
Apparently not, but a German website/retailer is cashing in on the recent campaign against violent games.
3Dsupply.de is offering this snazzy red and black shirt, which proudly declares, "I Choose No Killer Games." And as we all know, t-shirts are the best way of expressing your personal beliefs. It's a little odd, however, when you look at the rest of their catalog and see other shirts sporting slogans such as, "PC Games do not get violent... but the people who say!"
There's another t-shirt with a pro-gaming declaration that compares criminalizing computer games to burning books.
A brief description below the item explains:
The popular T-shirt for PC games launched campaign "I choose no killer games" there is a new edition.
Mit diesem Shirt könnt Ihr deutlich Stellung gegen die einseitige Verurteilung von Gamern als potentielle Amokläufer durch die etablierten Parteien beziehen. With this shirt you can clear position against the one-sided condemnation of gamers as a potential running amok through the established parties.
Here's my guess: these people support (PC) gaming, just not the violent ones?
In other news, a few German retailers are no longer selling 18+ or mature-rated movies and video games, such as (not limited to) Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto IV, Killzone 2, and Far Cry 2.
