Newcomer MadWorld unfortunately falls behind... really behind
Resident Evil 5 launched with a bang in the United Kingdom just over a week ago, and Chart-Track confirms Capcom's survival action shooter hasn't yet run out of steam after its second week in the PAL market. Whereas Street Fighter IV (also from Capcom) was toppled from its throne after launch week by Killzone 2 and Halo Wars, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 releases of Resident Evil 5 remain in the top two positions in last week's Chart-Track software ranking. It's not as clear how firm Resident Evil's grasp at the top is, and the title is joined by some high profile newcomers in the top ten.
Making a strong debut is THQ's WWE Legends of Wrestlemania; its position as newcomer is a show of support for the long-running WWE gaming franchise considering both console versions reportedly sold equally well. Take-Two and Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS also made the top ten, hailed by critics as one of the platform's finest titles thanks its fairly faithful representation of modern GTA gameplay and strong leverage of DS functionality.
Combined sales of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. keeps the aerial combat title in the top ten while Killzone 2 falls off the charts, but if each platform release were to be counted separately as highlighted in the individal format list then in fact it is the other way around. Both still fared much better at UK retail than Sega's newcomer, MadWorld. In spite of fears over MadWorld's availability in the UK thanks to its over-the-top violent content, the hype probably didn't amount to much as the title enjoyed a rather lukewarm reception with its 34th place debut last week.
