Investing in entertainment think tank led by Wright
Will Wright, the genius behind The Sims and Spore, is leaving Electronic Arts to focus on Stupid Fun Club, an entertainment think tank dedicated to developing new Intellectual Properties across multiple media fronts.
EA doesn't appear sour about the split at all, announcing today their plans to make an equity investment in Stupid Fun Club. Both EA and Wright will each own equal percentages of his most recent endeavor, making them the principal shareholders. Additionally, EA will have the right to develop game concepts coming out of Stupid Fun Club projects.
Creative Artists Agency is representing Will Wright.
“The entertainment industry is moving rapidly into an era of revolutionary change,” Wright said. “Stupid Fun Club will explore new possibilities that are emerging from this sublime chaos and create new forms of entertainment on a variety of platforms. In my twelve years at EA, I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside some of the brightest and most talented game developers in the industry and I look forward to working with them again in the near future.”
“We believe in Will’s vision for Stupid Fun Club and we’re looking forward to partnering with Will and his team long into the future,” adds EA's John Riccitiello.
