Believes Shadow of the Colossus will make perfect adaptation

Ever since the Internet got word of a Shadow of the Colossus movie, gamers have been beside themselves over the matter.  Most of the gaming community holds the PlayStation 2 exclusive in high regard, considering it the pinnacle of video games on so many levels.

And most of us were not expecting Hollywood to pick Shadow of the Colossus as the next game-to-movie adaptation.  And oh, how fans cried in anguish when we heard Justin Marks would be writing the screenplay, especially now that his name is association with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.  Also responsible for Voltron and Masters of the Universe, Marks must have been paying attention to the 'Net, as he is now asking SotC fans to have a little faith.

"I think many of the games haven't worked as movies because it's hard to find the right game. There are very few that lend themselves to movies," Marks said in an interview.

"If we started thinking that anything that worked in one medium shouldn't be adapted for another we wouldn't have a lot of the great movies we've had, because so many of them came from novels."

The movie project has been labeled "Colossus," and is currently in production by Sony and producer Kevin Misher, the man behind flicks like Fighting, Public Enemies, and Case 39.

"With a lot of games there are so many elements in the universe you spend your time tearing down and tearing down," Marks goes on to say.  "What's nice about this game is that it's so sparse so you can start building right away."

He says he's aware of concerns fans might have, especially with the track record previous game-based movies have left behind.  But Marks wants gamers to chill out and rest assured he will not be falling into traps set by Hollywood cliches.   His appears to have exceptionally high hopes about the Colossus movie.  "This is a game that catches you unaware -- it catches you on an emotional and experiential level, not just for the puzzles you solve."

"With a lot of games you're caught trying to please the fans and the mainstream audience," he added. "What's so nice about this game is that it's all seen through such an adult lens, so that what pleases the fans also pleases a wider audience."

Beyond appropriate, not sure why them essentially saying "third times the charm!" would make anyone worry less when they performed such high flying failures already. It's like Uwe Boll promising to get it right this time.
