Unless -- the press release is incorrect..?
Activision released a somewhat unclear press release today, concerning the upcoming Guitar Hero game. According to the press release, the game is to be called Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, while according to the website linked there within, the game is to be called Guitar Hero: Smash Hits.
The press release concerns a widget (a small web app) that enables Guitar Hero fans to vote on upcoming songs that will be included in the Guitar Hero: Smash Hits -- according to the press release. You can check out the widget over here. As far as my research has shown me however, the widget instead only tabulates votes on which tracks will be revealed to the public sooner, rather than later. There does not seem to actual track selection going on, as says the press release for Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits.
All confusion aside, it appears that the 48 tracks for Guitar Hero: Smash Hits have already been assembled. They are some of the most popular songs coming from the previous four versions of Guitar Hero (excluding the latest Guitar Hero: Metallica game). Smash Hits will be available for pre-order on June 19th. The website for the endeavour can be found right here.
The tracks that will appearing in Smash Hits from the first Guitar Hero game are as follows:
Pantera - “Cowboys From Hell (Live)”
Franz Ferdinand - “Take Me Out”
Queens Of The Stone Age - “No One Knows”
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - “I Love Rock N’ Roll”
