Throws in some free Microsoft Points with refund
Xbox LIVE subscribers were more than a little peeved to find out they were overcharged 400 Microsoft Points for Braid back in February when the indie game was featured in the first "Deal of the Week" offer on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
Microsoft blamed the mistake on some technical error, ensuring gamers they would be compensated within "the coming weeks." We've learned some time ago that "weeks" usually means "months" in game industry lingo, so here we are at the end of April. Microsoft has finally addressed the problem and will be giving out full refunds to those gamers they have wronged. Not only that, they're also tossing in a free 100 MS Points, kind of like the free month of Gold they include when shipping repaired Xbox 360 consoles back to disgruntled owners.
So if you were one of those gamers who paid too much for Braid, you've either already received this notice or will some time soon:
Dear Xbox LIVE Gold Member:
We launched Deal of the Week program on Feb 23rd, 2009 as an added benefit to your Gold membership and we are very excited to see the overwhelming response we have received from our loyal users such as you.
As a result of the increased transactions we know that you experienced an intermittent Xbox LIVE issue, which resulted in you being charged full price of 1200 points for the 'Braid' deal instead of the discounted price of 800 points. We sincerely wish to apologize for the
technical glitch and would like to take this moment to thank you for your patience and understanding as our team worked around the clock to fix this problem.
We will not only be crediting back the 400 points that were overcharged, but also be crediting an extra 100 points as a token of our appreciation and as a thank you for your loyalty during this period. You will see a credit of 500 points in your account in the coming weeks.
Gotta love a company with so much money they're willing to give things away for free in hopes that you'll keep crawling back.
