Have some drivers with that RC

ATI Catalyst 8.612 Windows 7 drivers released Image 1

Hot on the heels of the Windows 7 release candidate, ATI has cooked up some drivers specifically for this version of the OS. Best of all, these ones are WHQL certified.

Grab the new set -- almost double the size of the previous ones -- via AMD's website linked below.

Update: AMD has released some notes to complement the new drivers, bringing good news:

Full WDDM 1.1 WHQL-certified support under Windows 7

Enablement of ATI Stream technology for general purpose GPU (GPGPU) computing on supported graphics cards

Scheduled performance and new feature innovation every month

We can expect the first of many updates later this month, in the form of unified Catalyst 9.5 drivers for Vista & 7.

It really pisses me off that they don't support my video card anymore (X1950 Pro). I realize its older, but they don't need to cut off support to it all together.

Creative can still give me drivers for my X-FI Xtrememusic (discontinued) but ATI can't give me any for my X1950. Lame...

Hmm, yeah, looking into it, my last card (7800 GT) is older than the X1950 I think, or about the same age, and NVIDIA is still offering support for it (and under Win7). I think NVIDIA are known for better driver support anyway..I suppose because they have more resources to disperse.
