Fans of the Adult Swim cartoon show Metalocalypse are rejoicing today with the announcement of Metalocalypse: Dethgame. It will be coming for Playstation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade. 

The adult-oriented show follows the trials and tribulations of the fictional world's most popular death metal band, Dethklok. In the show, Dethklok is considered to be 20 times more popular than the Beatles, the 7th largest economy in the world (from album sales), and a cultural tour de force. Their rabid fans are known to commit suicide en masse to show just how excited they are when Dethklok comes to town to perform.

"We have gone above and beyond and found the biggest nerds in the industry to help develop and deliver what will without a doubt be the most successful downloadable cartoon death metal game in recorded history," said series co-creater, Brendon Small. "I defy anyone to find another death metal cartoon that can claim the same. I think the most important thing to remember beyond the record-setting CD sales, and astounding ratings and growing rabid fans around the world, is that this game is going to be a blast to play. I am very excited to be a part of making video games metal."

Metalocalypse: Dethgame will put you in the shoes of a Klokateer (pictured right), one of Dethklok's most loyal and brutal bodyguards. You'll have to kill over-zealous fans and perhaps protect yourself from the Klokateer's arch-nemeses in the Russian Navy.

Side note: Even though it is a television show, an actual Dethklok album came out in 2007, called the Dethalbum. It sold really well, debuting the 21st spot of the Billboard 200 charts. A second album is due in September, Dethalbum 2, and three songs from this new work of musical genius will be featured in the game.
