Diablo II receives hi-resolution patch

Finally, you can play Blizzard's classic in 3840x1024 res

Diablo II fans have long been stuck playing the game in a paltry 600x480 or 800x600 resolution, until now, that is; a freshly released fan-made patch allows gamers to select essentially any one they like. Below we have a shot of the game in 1280x720 (click it for the full version) -- feel free to link to your own shots of higher resolutions in the comments (ideally upload them to your gallery and use the "NeoEmbed - Linked" feature).

Gamers are saying higher numbers work fine, and "[the patch] makes it into a whole new game." XP users should note slowdowns are apparently more likely, while Vista and 7 users will suffer minimal issues. While the author recommends using software rendering, some users say you should disregard this and use DirectX rendering which looks much better and provokes no issues. Others have experienced graphical corruption however, so try DX first, and software second -- a possible fix is to disable Catalyst AI, for ATI users.

According to reader twizttid13, the patch is not able to be used online, unfortunately, but if you're not into MP or have no problems alternating between patched and unpatched versions, it's still something to be happy about (and hey, perhaps it will be updated to work online at some point).

Grab it via either of the links below.

I thought this was gonna be huge news. But it doesn't work with bnet, says cannot identify application number or something like that. Then plus while it does work in single player it is a little buggy. You can see some graphical glitches happening a little bit.
