Gamers rally for Alan Wake PC petition

It's down to Microsoft and fans know it

A few weeks ago we wrote about the PC version of Alan Wake, which it seems has been indefinitely postponed by publisher Microsoft, despite developer Remedy Studios' wishes and the advantages this version was to hold.

Some fans who really know their stuff have gotten together and created a petition for the game, allowing PC gamers to show the publisher just how many people want it. The petition comes complete with tons of history surrounding the game and its development history on the platform, and is well-written. Of particular note is this statement made by Remedy in July:

"Remedy has a deep heritage in PC gaming and would love to see a PC version available to its PC followers, ultimately however this decision lies with our publisher."

The fans note while gaming on the platform isn't as popular in the United States as it once was, it is very much so "across the pond" in Europe. More, they detail Microsoft's history with matters like these, reminding Halo was once planned to launch on PC first, but ended up coming out a year later as a bad port from the Xbox version.

With the call for voting comes a few demands, too:

We [...] ask:
1. ... for a reason why Microsoft abruptly cancelled the work on a PC version of Alan Wake.
2. ...you to release a statement to express your point of view on the situation.
3. ...you to strongly consider a PC version of Alan Wake and releasing it simultaneously or with just a very little time gap in between.

Upon initially seeing the petition, we saw 6,262 signatures. As of the time of writing, 7,145 is the magic number.

"Alan Wake deserves to have a different fate! It lies in your hands! Don't disappoint your customers around the world!" they say. Gamers can sign the petition via the link below.

    greedy F'ing microsoft.

So what was the point of touting a direct X 10 engine if you're releasing it on consoles?

What was the point of 5 years of development?

WTF is the point of being a video game artist if you're releasing it to 1 console leaving out millions of customers and loyal fans.

i f'ing hate this business so much.

i hope more people pirate everyday.

I'm not sure about this petition. Petitioning a company to sell you a game seems wrong to me.

Obliviously something is 'up.' Their must be some strong motivation for MS not to want to release this on PC (it isn't a technical reason.)

Personally I believe AW will come out on PC about 8-12 months after the 'exclusive' Xbox release.

Piracy could very well have been the reason they have been wary of releasing it on PC.

Or they could release 3 or so months later half-completed, along with the source code. We can but dream

Well, it seems they're mostly just asking Microsoft to release a statement about why they won't release Alan Wake for the PC, and then go on to asking them if they could reconsider releasing it for PC.

It's not like they're saying, "We demand you release this game." or anything like that.
