EA says Activision was 'huge and ugly monster' in Brütal Legend lawsuit

Company pleased with creator's win

The Brütal Legend lawsuit, if you're new to it, saw industry giant Activision battling with creators Double Fine Productions over publishing rights for the game. Reportedly, Activision had let the game on its merry way following its merging with Blizzard, though later sued the creators this June, claiming it still had rights; Double Fine countersued, claiming Activision was trying to block the game's release in order to protect its Guitar Hero franchise.

The case was eventually settled out of court; new publisher Electronic Arts (EA) stated at Gamescom today Activision was indeed the enemy here:

“Double Fine Productions… were in the news again for slaying a particularly huge and ugly monster, and bunch of lawyers,” said EA's VP of European publishing - Jens Uwe Intat, “who tried to keep [designer and Double Fine president Tim Schafer] from launching this game.”

“I’m very happy to say [Schafer] got rid of that monster, and Brütal Legend will launch,” he remarked, adding a demo will be out September 17.

Man, Activision is becoming the new EA. I guess since EA has been doing a bit of soul-searching lately Activision thought it was a good time to swoop in and steal the crown as the Devil of the game industry.

Ya I agree with jdj1976. I think it shows how little the Activision heads know about actual gaming that they sued these guys under the pretense that it would interfere with their sales of Guitar Hero. The games are so different.

Unless of course, they are suing out of personal reasons and that was just the weak cover story.
