Set phasers to "beta"
Cryptic Studios has certainly been keeping busy -- at the start of this month they released their super-hero MMORPG, Champions Online, and their other MMORPG Star Trek Online is due for a release at the end of March 2010.
If you are extra keen on getting into the latter game's beta, you can either enter into a draw or buy yourself in: anyone who purchases a 6-month, or lifetime sub for Champions Online is guaranteed access to Star Trek Online. All the details can be found via the source link below.
While at this point, not a tremendous amount of detail has been revealed on Star Trek Online, you can expect to be able to both Captain a starship in the game, and spend a lot of time on planets, running around shooting aliens.
I agree bruceleethree. MMOs are repetitive, and boring. I almost consider some games to be work. Killing butterflies for 10 hours? BORING! Killing giant frogs for 10 hours? BORING! Delivering a letter to a guy, who does nothing but accept the same exact letter from hundreds of different players every day? BORING!
I find no excitement in a lot of MMOs. Don't get me wrong though, those people who spend thousands of hours on the same MMO are quite impressive. Quite impressive indeed.
But there must be a GOOD MMO out there that requires skill for the player to be powerful. Hell, while we're at it, there should be an MMO with a constantly changing world. I hate it when I complete a quest, only to find another person complete the same exact quest. It makes me think to myself, "Didn't I just finish this quest? Why is this guy finishing the quest also? Will this quest ever end?"
Sorry, I'm just frustrated. I've spend hundreds of hours on MMOs for nothing. Except for a few extra pounds of fat.
This game looks cool though. I'll probably prove myself to be a hypocrite when I play this game for thousands of hours.
This game looks really great... I think it would have made a great non-MMO with co-op capabilities. The problem I have with MMO's is that you have to invest SO MANY hours to get to end-game elements, so you don't really enjoy the full scope of the world without huge investment of time, and a large part of my enjoyment of games is to experience the progression of various levels.

Check out www.brokeplanet.com for any and all of your MMORPG needs.
Wow I was shocked that they were still making this game. But I have to say, the graphics look *bleep*ing shitty. Not impressed at all. I'd rather them pull a Blizzard and take 6 years to release the game or something.

WoW was the last of its kind.
I think the way of the future for MMO's is making a player stand out amongst thousands. Via skill not time. Like Gladiator battles in the old times!
And by stand out I mean the MMO advertises him/her in quests etc...

I am personally looking forward to Jumpgate Evolution quite a bit.
